Glad to hear it. We're actually getting better at this stuff over here (stuff being general software development), so you should some nice improvements in the future, including a bit better stability.

Unhappy I bought the newest version and my G4 still freezes!

I followed the thread about system freeze ups with the G4's to try to trouble shoot the problem that I was having with this as well.

I finally decided it would be best to download the newest pay version, since someone suggested that this fixed the problem for them.

It worked great for about 4 hours, then froze, now it freezes the system nearly everytime I open up Limewire.

Please help! Limewire is a beautiful program and I want it to work. I now have a G4 and a DSL connection, and I still can't share mp3's. I'm depressed.

Are you running OS X or 9.x or below? Are there specific circumstances under which it freezes?

Thanks.

No problem. The first thing I would recommend is to increase the memory devoted to LimeWire (in the Get Info window, I believe??). Try increasing it to 80MB or so.

Are you sharing a large number of files? About how many?

Smile Memory allocation seems to solve the problem

Adam

i reloaded limewire and allocated over 80 megs of memory, and it has been opening and running well without crashes for about six hours now.

thanks adam, you're the limey-est!

Unhappy guess i spoke a little too soon...

So, not long after i posted the triumphal news that i was now happily file-sharing on my G4 with 80+ megs of ram allocated to limewire the system crashed. Then it crashed on startup from there on in every time I tried it. I uninstalled and re-installed a couple of times and it still crashes on startup.

If this is working for other G4 users, maybe there is some bad voodoo going down in my system that i'm unable to deal with. However, everything else in the system works pretty much perfectly the rest of the time so I don't think this is it.

I don't know if this helps: even when I reload the program, on startup the last download that I was working on when the program last worked keeps coming back as if getting ready to resume downloading, and it seems to be just when this window opens up at the bottem of the application that the crash happens. I don't know, I'm getting superstitious about the whole thing now, so I really have no idea whether this has anything to do with it.

Anyway, I'm perplexed. Maybe limewire just isn't going to work in this system, as much as I'd like it to and as fond as I've become of that little spinning lime slice. Is it going to be possible to get limewire working with this type of system? If not, can anyone suggest a file sharing app that does work reliably with the power mac G4? I know this is an evil request, and I don't want to give up on limewire, but this is starting to get time consuming.

I'm sorry to hear it seems to be crashing. The information about the file resuming is definitely interesting, however. Do you remember if it only started crashing once you had exited while there was a current download (so that LimeWire would automatically try to resume that download)?

Also, you should see a file called "downloads.dat" in your incomplete directory (/Applications/LimeWire/Incomplete by default). Can you possibly e-mail me that file at afisk@limepeer.com? I have a feeling that I will be able to reproduce the problem if you send me that, in which case we'll be able to fix it right away.

As far as other file sharing apps on OS X, I'm not familiar with any good ones. The only one that I have heard some good things about is Aqcuisition, at www.xlife.org . I believe it's programmed by a student, however, which isn't at all a bad thing -- it just means it's probably not the top priority. Give it a shot, though.
