trying to view on TV

I think I may be stupid.... I was successfully downloaded a movie, but when I try to make a DVD to share with my husband on the regular TV it does not work. What is my problem? Any help would be appreciated, I am a newbie.

You must first convert the video file (avi is the best) into DVD format.

Nero is a program that will do the job. Here is a link to the trial version.

Here is guide on making a DVD with Nero 7

Good Luck!

P.S. There are many programs that are available to do this...some are free...to get really good quality DVDs takes time and practice...Nero is a good compromise between ease of use and quality.

Wow Thanks 4 Fast Answer!!!

Never really done anything like this "posting" thing before! Thanks so much for your quick response.

I will try what you said, but for a beginner; is there a quick step by step to get a file from LW to disk. (I know that is awful simplistic, but I have NEVER done this and have NO clue what I am doing!)

For mac, Nero doesn't exist. Roxio Toast is the very best burner program there ever was on mac. In fact it existed on mac before Nero even existed. Toast Titanium 7 is the latest version for mac OSX. For OS 9, you'd need Toast 5.

I'd recommend burning the dvd's at minimum speed. And be sure your set top dvd player can play the dvd format you burn to. Some can only play dvd-r or dvd+r. So check which ones it can play.

Wow you guys are great

By the time I went to Nero and found it did not work on MAC, and came back to ask; Lord of the Rings already caught that!

LOR's, FYI that is actually what I was trying to use Toast Titanium 7. (I have used this a million times for regualr CD's but first time today for DVD)

I have file dowloaded, drag and drop in the Video section, and always gives me a "CD-ROM XA or Audio tracks cannot be written to DVD" error msg. AM I still being stupid here? Is is some simple setting change in the formats or media section perhaps?

This is just SO great guys, THANKS- for all your help!

Laura

What's the extension of the video file?
Did you click on the small blue arrow near the top of Toast to see the advanced options? Do that & select dvd-video.
I'm not a big burner of videos from the net. But I always use a dvd-rw disk to check to be sure it burns properly & my dvd player plays dvd-rw & -/+R disks without problem.

THX LOR's

Man LOR's you are the coolest! With even pictures for my stupidness!!!!

I just did what you said, and looks like it may actually be working. YEAH! (It was a .mov file)

Do you "post" or whatever here a lot? I may be back tomorrow if I still have trouble, or maybe even just to tell you it worked! Do you mind?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP! I just have not done these things before, and never expected so much thoughtful help. Your A#1 in my book!

Lord of the Rings January 1st, 2007 06:06 PM

That's fine. But you said it's a .mov file. Most .mov files I've come across are porn on the network. That's why most people aim to downld mpg/mpeg or avi. I'll most likely be here tomorrow. ;) :)

Oh, thanks!

LOR had no clue!!!!

THANKS!

It was what I thought was edited to conform to the forum rulez..please follow them in the future!!!!

I am so glad you told me that! I just stopped it and will come back tomorrow after a different download.

Do you have an extension you suggest?

Don't want to kill you with kindness; but thanks SO much..... I do not want any wierd crap on my computer!!!!!!
