![]() Hello, everyone!! First time to post here. Ok here is my problem. I am using LimeWire Pro 2.2 and after downloading my music files they wont play when double clicking or hitting the launch tab. I have the current version of QuickTime and in the File Exchange setup QuickTime is listed as the association for MP3's. Now this seems like an easy problem to work on but I am stumpped. If I go directly into the shared folder where my music is stored and double click then I get some sort of message stating that"the program that was used to create this file cannot be found do you want to use quick time instead". I need some of your expertise on this issue. I have been reading some of the older posts which are similar but nothing has seemed to be a good fix for my problem. Thanks for the help Mark Wenholz |

![]() Try this (maybe LimeWire can't handle the extra dialog): In the File Exchange control panel under the File Translation tab uncheck "Always show choices when translating files." You may need to choose QuickTime one more time in the dialog before the file will open directly. |

![]() Huh? File Exchange control panel? Where is this? I have been all through this program and I don't see this anywhere. I made a similar post a few days ago and I've received no response. (see "Can't play downloads 1-10-02) Nothing at all happens when I click on songs. I'd appreciate some detailed administraive help on this. I was downloading and playing Limewire generated uploads off of Mactella with no problems. Just downloaded current version Limewire 2.0. , can download but nothing plays. (I have Quicktime and Soundjam) Thank you. |

![]() OK, the smoke cleared and I realized it's in the Apple menu control panels(duh). Tried to add Quicktime, first got a dialog box asking for extension and has boxes for file type and application. Don't know which extension? Closed window to look.Afterward couldn't get this box to reappear. A different one"Add translation preference" comes up.Tried stuff but don't understand what it wants. Bottom line -files still won't open. I can drag them into Quicktime and they work, but I've wasted hours and still don't have the pathway.(I don't do this stuff every day.) Am I in the right place? I thought this was the Limewire support forum. Do Limewire techs give help here or am I dependent on the kindness of strangers? This is very frustrating when a Read Me document with a configuration setup for the pathway is all that is needed, but isn't in the folder. Any clear info regarding this would be greatly appreciated. I want to like this program but right now it's a pain. |

![]() this is rather bunk I agree. it is frustrating enough that Mac users get the cold shoulder from other file sharing networks, but, to actually have the "capabilities" to download AND PLAY mp3s and not have them working like a smooth criminal sucks the donkey. anyhoo... i just wanted to gripe, so maybe for once the Mac peeps can be heard. oh yeah, i can't get the damn things to play either...not even in quicktime. |

![]() Take a look at section 4-2 of the FAQ if you haven't already: <http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...=3328#section4> |

![]() mwenholz, sorry to butt in on your post but since our(I see another has joined us) problem is the same and we are getting some kind of response I hope yours is solved or you are getting something out of this. e-field I had looked at the FAQ. Re: 4-2 I did that , still won't launch. Re: 4-3 I don't get "right click" I use a KensingtonExpert Mouse(trackball) I have buttons programmed for single click, double click and custom features. In any case neither brings up that elusive pop-up menu. Can you supply a clear cut configuration for the launch pathway, in language that doesn't assume that anyone knows anything about it already? For instance, in 4-3 what "file" is being referred to-in the Shared Folder? in the Library tab window? Does doing this configure everything or just that file? Sorry to sound so dumb but I had NO problem with any of this with Mactella, which is basically the same program. |

![]() See if this thread helps to get files to launch. It's long, but an answer should be in there. <http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&threadid=3294> For 4-3 of the FAQ, those instructions apply to Windows. There is no contextual menu option to "Open with" for the Mac. The easiest way to get files to open with another application is to drag the file to the application or open it from within the app. A more permanent method which applies to all files of that type is to go to the File Exchange control panel and click the File Translation tab. Make sure "Translate documents automatically" is checked. If you check "Always show choices when translating files" when you open a file that isn't assigned to an application you have, each time a listing will be shown of applications that should open the file. With the option unchecked the first time you choose an application that one will be used every time after. When I am referring to files, I am talking about the downloaded files in the Finder and not in the LimeWire library tab. LimeWire 2 handles this opening stuff much better than the 1.x versions. |

![]() efield Interesting thread, at least this seems to be something that needs work by the developers. In the meantime I have found out that some downloaded files just won't open , adding to the initial confusion, although most do.I've just been going into the Shared folder in the Limewire folder and doubleclicking on the files which then brings up my familiar alternate program window offering Quicktime(Movieplayer) or Soundjam. Selecting Soundjam opens the file and plays it as usual. I keep everything filed and sorted there anyway. I assume this might work for people with iTunes. Anyway, I can live without the instant launch for now since file availabilty and speed is much better than Mactella.(in all fairness though, Mactella was a friend indeed the weeks after Napster went down). Thanks for the input. Discovered in the course of the above: Anyone out there know why all No Doubt-Rock Steady files have an incomplete demo loop of "Don't Let Me Down" or just won't open? Some kind of record company Big Brother control thing a la Napster? |
