Newbie-Sharing Security?

I've just installed the latest version of LimeWire for Mac. I don't quite understand the physics of LimeWire file sharing. I want to make sure I'm not sharing anything else on my hard drive other than what's in the LimeWire shared folder. I have file sharing on 'cause I'm on a network. Does this compromise my security? Is it ok for the LimeWire sharing folder to be in the appl. folder in the hard drive or should it be somewhere else, away from the files I don't want shared? During the install, the program scanned my hard drive & brought up a few folders on my hard drive with picture files, et cetera. I didn't check any of these. I appreciate the help.
