Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. Another mac 9.2.2 that can't connect I hope I'm not being annoying by posting this since so many other people have started the same topic (however, the fact that there are a lot of these threads across all platforms makes me curious...). As has happened to lots of others, Limewire just won't connect. It just stays on one bar saying 'connecting'. I don't think anything on my computer has changed recently, it worked fine last time I used it (a couple of weeks ago). Starting to get suspicious of my ISP! I've tried all the fixes I could find in the forums - deleting preferences, forcing IP etc - to no avail, so here's my info: 1. OS version? mac 9.2.2 2. What firewalls you have? Not sure, this is what I could find (but nothing's been changed & LW was working with this set-up before) Firewall Configuration DoS Protection DoS attacks can be checked based on your specific need. State: Enabled SYN Flooding checking Port Scan Protection Port Scan attacks can be checked based on your specific need. State: Enabled NMAP FIN/URG/PSH attack Xmas Tree attack Null Scan attack SYN/RST attack SYN/FIN attack Service Filtering The following services can be blocked based on your specific need. Telnet from External Network FTP from External Network DNS from External Network IKE from External Network RIP from External Network DHCP from External Network 3. How much ram? 512mb 4. Hard Disk space available? 3.10GB 5. Connection type? broadband - DSL 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? D-Link DSL-G604T/AU 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.0.7 - doesn't tell me any Java info 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? iinet 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? test worked 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. nope 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new problem 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? nope http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP enabled 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. None! 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Australia Thanks in advance. |

I don't think the LW 4.0 was UPnP capable. I'd need to check. If that's the case you will need to port forward your router. I had a similar version. You will need to set up a static ip first: Computing & Information Technology : University of Vermont Then see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...4g-router.html which should be similar to yours. If LW was working fine before then try deleting the LW prefs folder whilst the program is closed; found here: Macintosh HD/System Folder/Preferences/.limewire List your prefs folder in List mode & you should find it at the top. |

Thanks for your help. I'd already tried deleting prefs while closed (more than once...in case it didn't take the first time ). The thing that doesn't make sense to me is that I've used LW for years now with this set-up (whatever UPnP is), why would there be problems all of a sudden do you think? I'll look into the port forwarding stuff now & let you know how I go. EDIT: No luck with the port forwarding. Any other suggestions? *crosses fingers* Last edited by nikita_tiger; July 4th, 2007 at 08:36 AM. |

You are with same ISP as me. No ISP issues there. I have no problems connecting with LW 4.0 in OS 9.2.2 UPnP (universal plug & Play is a system that allows a UPnP capable program to communicate directly with the router & open any needed ports. This was not available at the time of LW 4.0) Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link) & delete your LW prefs folder from time to time. Take a look at ideas in other threads such as http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...s-9-2-2-a.html Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Connections & uncheck option for automatically connect. Then close LW, open it up again. Let it settle for 10-15 mins, then go to menu bar, File menu & choose connect. Give it plenty of time to connect. Sometimes opening a browser may help. |
