Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Is it Limewire or Gnutella that sucks?

I only have Macs in my home & office so I'm not sure about this.

Using Limewire less than 10% of the downloads I attempt even start. Less than 10% of those are completed successfully. Are the numbers any better for the PC version?

On the lighter side, they now want us to PAY for Limewire.

all i can say is that it used to be great for me... i was thinking that our network had gone down the crapper, but from skimming this forum i'm thinking it's not just me. i used to be able to download songs in a minute or so, and several at once. now - let's just say it's not even worth launching the program lately. is everyone running into these issues?

After upgrading I noticed no improvement in search or download speeds. It was seemingly the same, except that every file, every Mp3 that I download cannot be launched from within Limewire. I can launch it by clicking on the file in the Shared folder on my hard drive. Quicktime is then summoned to open and launch them, which happens without fail. I can listen to them on my computer. When I try to drop these files into Toaster preparing to burn a CD, Toaster spits them right out, complaining that they are not recognizable files. This is sad. I've been told to drop the Limewire files onto the Stuffit Expander icon to open or translate them. This is 100% ineffectual. Nothing happens. I would expect an unstuffed file to appear on my desktop or in a folder somewhere, but if it's happening, it's somewhere deep in my machine's innards where I cannot find it. Before upgrading, I had about 15% of my downloads show up as these "blank page", imposter files. A minor annoyance. Now they're ALL useless. Lime wire is being really quiet about all this. I suspect that Bill Gates secretly bought them out and is up to his old Mac sabotage tricks. Perhaps the recording moguls are in control now. I would become a paying member of Limewire if they would at least tell us how to translate these useless, androgenous, hermaphroditic files into honest-to-god Mp3s again. Of course you can always trash the upgrade and reinstall the old version that WORKED!

I'm on a G4 running system 9 and I'm on Time Warner cable modem access.

To make my MP3's usable again I use MusicVac. It's a small Freeware program that gives the MP3 a new identity. I usually make mine into SoundApp files.

Angry To be a LimeWire supporter, or not to be...

Hello, I'm new to LimeWire. It sucks. I can't find any useful downloads on a variety of subjects like audiobooks, lectures, or PBS or NOVA specials, and there's not a single documentary available. My best friend is blind, and he downloaded limewire in hopes that it would succeed Napster or Morpheus. Even he can see that it's not going to happen anytime. However, I guess SlimeWire (oops!), excuse me, LimeWire is great for teenie-boopers who have the option to choose between a million britney spears songs or a billion ganster-rap-crap files. Though, I can't complain too much about the availablity of the porn. Now some people may say, "shut up, it's for free!" but that's besides the point. If you're going to offer an application, at least make sure you don't waste the user's time with something that's not worthwhile, and even worse, please don't ask them to upgrade to something that even a college freshman could program better. And if all these downfalls were designed from Microsoft (to stick it to Mac users until we trade in our G's or IMac's for some junk-box like compaq) then they're wasting their time because Apple users are some of the most supportive consumers any business could ask for, and that's only because Apples are simply better; they are conscious of our specific needs and appetites. Go Steve Jobs! Wish I could support LimeWire with the same enthusiasm, but they have to at least take some complaints seriously.

Well, that was kind of the point of the original question: "Is it Limewire or Gnutella that sucks?"

I'm not sure Limewire is to blame here - although the lack of response to any of our inquiries IS f**king unforgivable...

My thought was that maybe the whole gnutella concept is just seriously flawed at the base level.

Look at the FAQ documents. Much of what they say is basically "a lot of stuff doesn't work if you are behind a firewall". It doesn't take Albert Einstein to tell you that the use of firewalls (both personal and corporate) is skyrocketing. If firewalls kill gnutella then I would consider gnutella already dead.

Still, someone should answer us.

It was suggested that:

"To make my MP3's usable again I use MusicVac. It's a small Freeware program that gives the MP3 a new identity. I usually make mine into SoundApp files."

I've been searching all over the web for a place where I can download this app. I've found many places that appear to make this possible. In all cases, clicking DOWNLOAD results in either:

"Page cannot be found" or

The download button is now linked to this Netscape page of downloads (allways the same page) that does not include MusicVac. I've seen about ten different incidents of this.

All links to the MusicVac homepage have been severed. The creator of the app can no longer be contacted.

Am I too late? Has the author of this application been entombed in some dank subterranian vault by The Conspiracy, The CFR and The Trilateraists?

I'll check back here in hopes that someone can show me where I'm missing it.

I don't get it! All you people must either be little kids who think they know everything or you do know what you're talking about and you're just, basically, a bunch of idiots. These people have been working probably 24-7 to get this thing up and running. I mean what else is there to use? I'm on my computer almost all day (well as much as I can anyway) and I'm always on the lookout for new programs. There is nothing else that even comes close to the capability of LimeWire. Yes, a lot of the downloads are basically junk but still, it's free, it looks pretty good, and it's growing larger and more capable every upgrade. It's more of a question if they can get a deal with the morpheus or kazaa network (whatever they're on). LimeWire is a very good program, even though it does have a few things to clean up. I do want to thank them for making LimeWire more stable. I remember the first few versions crashed a lot. Anyhoo keep up the good work.
