Angry Limewire documents...will not open

I'm RED not Lime Green

If it says limewire document, I guess you just trash it. Most downloads are fine. But when one comes in as limewire, you can slice it, dice it, rename it, but it stays limewire document. Click on it and Limewire comes to the front...and just sits there and looks at you like you've screwed up!

A real fix would be helpful. None of the fixes I've seen have worked.

And to add to the frustration, it's almost always the huge files that do this; the ones you have waited 30 minutes on a cable connection to download.

Phoey!

Red face Been there, done that

Doesn't help! Tried it.
Stuffit expander just scratches its head at sit files, and dmg files, well they continue to be limewire files ad nauseum.

Unhappy me too

I know what your saying Rd2. I have the same trouble. Occasionally for a SIT file I will even get the proper icon for Stuffit, but nothing happens. I would be interested in a solution. If it matters, I have an iBook with OS 9.2, cable internet, and the Stuffit that came with OS 9. All the small files work great. Anyone???

Talking Solved!

These files are fixable! (wish I'd thought of this before I re-re-downloaded that 19 MB file...)

All you need to do is get MP3 Rage, which you should have anyway because it is a really excellent program for fixing your ID3 tags, which you do, right? There is a free trial period so you can try it out.

Anyway, start up MP3Rage, drop your mystery "limewire document" onto the top button in the console, the one that says "Display & Edit MP3 File Tags."

In the upper right hand corner of the window that will open, you'll see the filename, then two windows labeled Type and Creator.

Change Type to
SITD
and Creator to
SIT!

All caps, and you do need the exclamation point.

Click "Update." You'll get a dialog box saying something about there being no tags in the file. Click the option "Delete Tags."

Voila! File is fixed, and will open with Stuffit like normal.

(If this advice helped you, pass it on, and please spend a little time with MP3 Rage fixing the tags on your files...artist, album, song title...)

Question Not mp3

Ahem! I seldom have trouble with mp3s. This fix seems to be only for music files. What about program/application files that have nothing to do with mp3s? These are the megafiles that chew up a lot of time and frustrate me when they don't work!

If this is some kind of magic fix for all files, let me know.

It's not just for MP3's. The fix I posted above is specifically for Stuffit archives, which are the ones I'd had the "Limewire Document" problem with, and the one the OP was asking about...

For any other kind of file you need, just open up a known good one with MP3Rage, and note the type and creator. Then open up the bad file and change them to match.

Hope this helps!
