Is this a bad idea? (port related ?) Hey, i'm working off a college ISP so i have NO clue what they're blocking me with. all i know is i can't get a ping below 2k on CS and i almost CONSTANTLY get awaiting sources... i probably have about 3 dl's a week... out of about 100 attemps... not cool... so anyway, i decided to click some links and find the port listing of all the ports available and so on... and decided to use the HTTP port 8080... IS this NOT a good idea? i switched ports and restarted my compaq evo laptop... and it actually works... i have many DL's running now at decent speeds... my main question is: will i get in trouble doing this? or will it just slow down my web surfing? i don't need a lawsuit or anything like that so please respond quickly. and if yes, then what port should i switch too?!? i've read 100 posts saying "switch your port" but... THEY NEVER GIVE SPECIFIC ALTERNATIVE PORTS!!! any, please help and thanks in advance. |
