Any thoughts anyone? Only it's starting to feel as though this whole P2P thing just ain't a hapenning.

If only Kazzaa was available for us Mac users.

Kazaa is also P2P.

Kazaa and its spyware its the biggest bullshit which exist. The official number one is now the Donkey network. there is also a Mac version:

http://www.edonkey2000.com/downloads.php

But be patient, the donkey netwrok is mainly for bigger files like videos and games. So its needs a little longer to start with a download but after a while the donkey is running like a horse.

Many thanks for that. I've been reading about eDonkey but didn't think there was a Mac version.

I'll give it a spin and see if it's any better than Limewire...

Well, I've installed the Donkey software and am trying to download a 700Mb file over my 512Mbs broadband DSL connection.

Now I'm now expert by any means, and I'm sure that this is down to some kind of sharing of bandwidth (or something) but why am I only receiving data at 2-4 Mbs when my connection is 512? I appreciate that data won't get to my machine at the full 512 speed, but for it to be at just 1/100th of my broadband connection speed? That IS slow.

If I had a 1Mbs line I guess it wouldn't make anything quicker (in the P2P arena) would it? Like I say, I'm no expert so please feel free to educate rather than berate me on this one.

Thanks

I said you should be patient.

Did you read the faq? There are many ways to increase the donwload success.

I hearya, but while I'm prepared to be patient, I've been 'downloading' this file for over 24 hours and it's curently at 8.62%.

Patience does kinda have a limit.

I read somewhere that to download a film takes less time than it takes to watch it...

I donīt know where you read this, but its really a good joke...

A film needs between 3 - 14 days. If you are really lucky, you can download it in one or two days but this is not normal.

look in the faq set up your donkey...

btw do you think you would be able to download a movie from Kazaa? Kazaaa is only good for music I didnīt manage to download a whole movie, the main reason is because there are no.

But you can choose which program you like more.

You have still the possibility to buy the video if you are to impatient. There is no P2P program which can offer every time a video download within 24 hours or less.

Well in that case, like the man in his orthopaedic shoes, I stand corrected.

So why is hollywood so worried then? Are there really that many people who are prepared to wait up to two weeks for a film to downlaod?

Will this get quicker with faster broadband connections or is the speed down to the structure of P2P networks?

I'll stick with DVDs and the oddd trip to the cinema. For now anyway.

Of course there are patient people who wait. Many people donīt download just one film they try to get several movies at the same time, I finish every one or two days a film or a game.

P2P is P2P, if you are lucky you can download faster but its not sure.

We shall see.

There is a file which is now downloading a lot quicker, but looking at the details on the sources that it's coming from, it could well be in French!

I'm all new to this, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

Thanks for your advice & guidence,
