ive use bearshare and if i look for the same file whit limewire i get 40 files and whit bearshare 194.why is everybody using limewire?.bearshare has spyware i know i accidently deleted it whit a antispyware program and since then i use limewire but it is not so good.
am i doing something wrong?are there better programs?

Not all Bearshare programs have spyware. I believe the lite version (& I think the pro version) don't have. But beware of the spyware utility you use to check p2p sharing programs. Some just don't work properly & detect the magnets & http help links as being spyware .... one spyware program that does work properly is Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) & I guess you can also add ad-ware (FREE) to the list for a good combination.

Shareaza is a good program afaik, but it's abilities on the gnutella network (it refers to it as Gnutella 1) are not so good.

LimeWire can be very good if you learn the small tricks of how to use it. There's certainly lots of Stickys around the LW sections of the forum to help with any problems & the most commonly asked questions.

Others, Frostwire which is next to the same as LW. There's also Phex which includes detailed information for the user. Perhaps not as user friendly for the novice though. But it's still a very good program.

i just downloaded limewire then i found limewire pro on limewire
and why do ppl even pay for software

Hyper-kun December 25th, 2005 04:08 AM

Boumtje23, maybe you should read what you link to. In case you didn't know, developers have to drink and eat too. Most of them even have to pay rent unless they're still living with mummy and daddy. Some people develop software in their free time, others do it for a living. "Open-Source" has absolutely nothing to do with gratis.

If someone offers software free of charge then be happy but don't be an *** just because someone requests payment for his work.

I like Limewire, but it makes my computer really slow. I suspect it has to do with LW's use of Java.

Limewire Pro 4.9.37

I have tried the newer versions of both Limewire and Frostwire, and I can't get them to run properly, so I downgraded

I might add that I have to use UPnP. So many of the (maybe) better programs won't run properly on my comp

Frostwire is my fave. tried Morpheus - full of adware IMHO
