![]() Hi, I live in east TX, where my only options of internet connection are dial up and this company that has monopoly of the business in the area around me, when we started to use their service everything was fine, after a couple of years, we start to notice bandwidth being cut to half sometimes 3/4. Recently we started to try out online game that has peer to peer functions built in to their patching client for their game, then found out the ISP is blocking any form of file sharing and peer to peer, we can't even go to forums online or use Google to search for solution such as "patching game without torrent or p2p... any website or forums online threads and such contains words torrent will result an error page for us we have tried to look for other options with limited searching options, we found some stuff like using proxy, but we don't want to do anything that may result our ISP cancels our service.... any ideas? Is this legal for the ISP to do so? they apparently added extra notes to their term of use page regarding not supporting file sharing 2 years or so AFTER we signed up with them not sure If this is against the forum rule but the game we are trying to get it finish installing is F**l Fant**y XIV...yes the game wont even finish install because the installation included some file patching with their patch client that has peer 2 peer built in. thank you Last edited by Lord of the Rings; September 26th, 2010 at 07:17 AM. |

![]() Noah I'm on the other side of the Atlantic but what you are experiencing is very similar to what I have gone through with one of the ISPs I used to use. Unfortunately, you are between a rock and a hard place, your ISP has the monopoly for your area and, as such, can do what they like. And, like most rural areas (I presume you live in a rural area), it is unlikely that any other ISP is going to try and commercially compete with the incumbent company. As for trying proxy servers, this may work for a while but because your Internet signal will be bouncing all around the US (or the world) you will find your response times slowing down to such an extent that the game may become unplayable. The only real answer, I'm sorry to say, is by moving to an area where changing ISPs is possible. Right now your current ISP can ignore your complaints and, if they see you as a trouble maker, cut you off because they're a monopoly and don't need or have to compete for your custom. Sorry. ![]() From your Internet Service Provider: "Is there anything that can not be done on wDSL from Texas CellNet? We do not allow any form of file sharing because of its ill effect on a wireless network. Unlike a wired connection, when dozens of packets are sent or received, everyone on that tower is affected. For that reason, the offending account will be restricted by the tower for the benefit of the entire network." Aren't they kewt? We should eat them! Any chance your TV provider can deliver Internet? |
