Unhappy LimeWire 4.14.7 won't work!!!!

Hi Y'all,
I'm on a Windows Vista operating system which previously ran LimeWire 4.12.15 perfectly well, with subsequent upgrades it won't work including 4.14.7 upgrade. I don't know what has changed or why - I've tried changing my Norton Security Firewall setting and Windows Defender, uninstalling java & reinstalling with an offline version which was suggested then re-installing limewire ALL TO NO AVAIL!!!! I've only succeded in tying myself in knots not to mention my computer and am FRUSTRATED beyond belief!!!! I'm a newbie at this and am missing my beloved Lime music TERRIBLY!!!!
When I click on limewire it loads to a point, where if I'm quick enough' I can play one song then everything "Freezes", something clicks in and prevents me even from turning limewire off but does let me minimise it so I can go on to the internet which is still useable like everything else, just not limewire!!!!
PLEASE HELP - I love my Limewire
Many Thanks - jeff44.

Have you updated Java since you were using 4.12.15? Some people have had weird problems with the 2 latest Java updates 1.6.0_01 & _02. You could try this version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Also, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Have you tried the latest LW (4.14.8)? See if that behaves any differently. Make sure that you download the offline installer. When you click to download & the download box pops up, cancel it. Now you'll see the option to download the offline installer

If nothing works, send me a PM & I'll give you a link to download 4.12.15 basic again

Jeff I had the SAME problem you do, I gave up on Limewire, something wrong with the damn thing almost everyday. I installed "FROSTWIRE" who is a kissing cousin to Limewire, no more problems.

Hi tried installing limewire 4.12.3 after uninstalling FROSTWIRE & am still getting the same results even though Noton security is allowing limewire to access the internet
What the **** is going on? It's so frustrating that this all happened for no apparent reason when it worked perfectly well before. Please help.

OK if you want to try and install OLD version the site is Old Version of Limewire Download.
I know what you are going thru with, I got so damn mad that I wanted to throw the computer in the bathtub full of water!!!!!!! There was a guy I read about a day or two ago that said the ONLY way he could get limewire to work was to UNISTALL Norton or other firewalls. THEN after the uninstall of Norton, install limewire FIRST. IF all else fails go to my post [Ronn on page 58 of members] on here, I told a couple people how to completely unistall Limewire. It is a pain in the --- to unistall Limewire too, but it is worth it. This might be the way to go, do a complete new install, because the computer might have gotten confused. There are literally hundreds of people having problems with limewire, I don't know why in the ---- they don't fix it. and by the way if you do a NEW install the BRAND NEW version of Limewire is 4.14.8. I wish I could help you more, I am not a computer geek, just trying to help. Let me know what happens ok? >>>Ronn

I forgot to tell you, when you do the NEW reinstall with NORTON and Windows Defender both UNINSTALLED, wait until you get Limewire running before you install anything. I heard some bad reviews on Windows Defender, this might be your problem. >>>>Ronn
