What Java version are you using? If you don't have Java 1.6, download the JRE offline installer here
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Uninstall any other Java versions before installing the new one.

Are you using McAfee? There's a conflict there & people are finding that if they uninstall McAfee, things are ok.
Use the forum search to look for McAfee...you'll find lots of other threads with more info

Birdy thanks, I use only the McAfee antivirus. I use the windows firewall. Is 1.6 the same as JDK 6? How do I find out if I have Java loaded? It is not listed in my program files.

JDK 6 does include JRE but I'm not sure what else it has

Grandpa's been running Vista for quite a while & he's used the JRE, so if I were you, that's the one I'd go for.

I don't run Vista. In my XP, Java is listed in Program files but not in All Programs from the start menu. Try going to Control Panel (if Vista has that option) > Add/Remove programs...see if there's any Java there.
