You should not have 2 active firewalls. Either choose McAffee or Windows firewall & make sure the chosen one has Limewire/gnutella as an exception. Two active firewalls will not give you extra security. To the contrary, firewalls tend to clash with each other & result is less security & other possible side effects.

I have a new laptop with vista as well. had problems connecting too. Uninstalled all components of Java and reinstalled with offline version and now I can connect. Connection is not always good but that is probably because I am sharing a satellite connection with 3 other computers.

alright all ppl that have windows vista (any version) that are not able to connect or sometimes connect but not all times. All you have to do is (and this does work on most if not all the programs that need to be backwards compat) Right Click the shortcut or got to the .exe file of the program (normaly located at C:\Program Files\LimeWire)and click properties goto compatibility and this is important click the box Run this program in... select wich version you run it in in the drop box (most likely windows xp service pack 2) AND ALSO below click the box Run as Administrator. And there you go all your problems are solved!!! YAAAAAA WOOOOOO go have fun.
