Go to start>Control Panel>Programs and Features and uninstall the services that are creating the problem. Or completely uninstall McAfee and install Avast.

I then configured my router for both port forwarding and upnp forwarding the globe disappeared and I got a turbo connection. I then did a search for a large file and started Downloading a file 200 MB file within 2 minutes I had 10 connections and I am currently downloading the file at 150 KB/s 50% done in 7 minutes so LimeWire works fine with Vista

how did you do that last part?

I just bought a new laptop with Vista on it. I had to use the offline installer on Limewire's site to get it to download, it would get stuck right after the download began normally. My problem is that it will not connect to the network, and my internet quits working as well yet I have all my bars on the wireless connection....What can I do?
edit: i'll go back through all the previous posts, I just zipped to the end to post..sorry.

Check and see if you have the lisence warning ticked...
Go to Tools > options > Searcing > Lisence Warning and make sure the box is not ticked and select apply...

Lightbulb hmm alrighty.

heres what i can get

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
Vista home edition
2. What firewalls you have?
idk how to find that out..
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
student, house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
i followed what grandpa said
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
AT&T
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
  • <LI id=causeNotConnected>You are not connected to the Internet. <LI id=causeSiteProblem>The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.
What you can try:

Diagnose Connection Problems

More information

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
its just the cable from outlet to computer
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
first try, had it on a mac, but not vista. im a new vista person
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
yep.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?
im sorry..i have no idea what this is..
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall
we have nortons
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland).
USA
