![]() First and foremost, I am not technical AT ALL! I know very little about this computer, I just got it yesterday and I don't really know where you look to find the info about it either. So I am very sorry to say that someone needs to be kind and patient with me. I know so little about computers that I told a friend what I wanted and he had it built for me and I paid for it. I tried to get Limewire and it looked like it downloaded fine. I tried to use it and it would not connect. i thought I did something wrong, uninstalled it and tried again. It still would not work so I thought it was the basic and got the pro. Now I realizes it loses its connection. I tried what it said by disabling the ultrapeers and it worked once. It allowed me to download two songs and then it lost the connection and has not worked since. Also, when it loses the connection I guess it makes my modem mess up too because I can't get back on the internet without rebooting my computer. Thanks a lot, I appreciate any and all help. It sucks having a new computer and not being able to use it. Music and digital scrapbooking are all I really wanted from it. Shari Here is as much of the info you requested as I know. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows Vista 2. What firewalls you have? Not sure, does McAfee sound right 3. How much ram? plenty 4. Hard Disk space available? plenty 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? don't know 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? [COLOR="Red"Home[/COLOR] 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Pro? 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Do you mean the cable company or explorer? 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Don't think so. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. First time 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, sometimes only one brick I think when it let me get a song it had two or three. |

![]() 2. Lots of Vista users have had trouble with McAfee & have uninstalled it...check out posts 38 & 44 of this thread. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...t=66708&page=3 6. Have a look on your modem. The brand & model number should be written on it, or maybe underneath. 8. Open LW, click on Help & go to 'about LW'...it will show what LW & Java versions you're using. 9. Who is the cable company? 13. When LW's open, you'll see a little blue globe at the bottom of the page. Is there a picture of a brick wall in front of that globe? |
