How do I FULLY uninstall Limewire

Got my new visita (Home Premium) machine yesterday and downloaded and installed Limewire Basic. There's a problem with colour matching, etc. so I decided to uninstall it.

I used the LW uninstall feature and thought all was well. Not so. It keeps on popping up with an error message, it's process still keeps launching even though I disabled it in Sys Config startup items.

Did a search and found a .limewire folder in users and so deleted that. Still no luck - a dialogue box keeps appearing with the message below. This just keeps happening every 5 minutes. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

wondering why March 7th, 2007 04:24 PM

Did you download any files before you decided to unistall Limewire ??

reneegade March 7th, 2007 04:25 PM

Yes I did - do I have to do something with them?

wondering why March 7th, 2007 04:28 PM

No, it's just a case of a virus was hidden in one of those files...

You will need to do this fix, the only thing is it's for XP, so you may have to vary some of the steps if there is any conflict...But it should be all good...

Thanks - that seemed to have worked. A Limewire process was still running after using BFU but since I ended that process it hasn't relaunched itself again.

Thanks for your help - hope the weather's nice in Brisbane - up there next week.

How do I fully uninstall limewire?

I had LW 4.12.6 and it worked fine. I was asked to upgrade to 4.14 so I did. Now I cannot connect to the network. I have one green bar a 4 red bars and nothing that I search returns any results. I uninstalled the newer version and tried to install the older version but that did not work. I also did a system restore and that didn't work either. I installed Frostwire and had the same connection problems. Please help me.

What happened when you tried to install the older version? Did you get an error message?

If you got a message saying that there was a version of LW still running, open Task Manager (ctrl/alt/del) & see whether there's a LW process running. If there is, end the process. Now try to reinstall.

How did you remove LW? If you removed via Add/Remove programs, that's the wrong way & can lead to problems. In that case, use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name & delete whatever you find. Restart your computer & then try to reinstall LW.

Limewire

When I tried to reinstall the older version it would download the newer one. I did search the folders and removed everything that read limewire and tried to reinstall it but it still won't connect. I want to restore back to the factory settings. Will that help?

So you now have the 4.12.6 installed?

Try this first, sometimes preferences can get corrupted after switching from version to version & it can lead to connection problems.
Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

If that doesn't fix things for you, please give us your details;)
