Default A fix for Visat/Limewire

I recently went to the McAfee home page......I signed up for the live free chat tech support....they ran a scan of my McAfee programs and then asked me some questions. It seems the problem all along was not vista but McAfee...they gave me specific instructions on how to uninstall McAfee and gave me a small proggie to further uninstall hidden components and then asked me to go to their website and reinstall McAfee....apparently I was missing 3 small key files....well, I did so......

before I could not connect to limewire or if I did, I would drop and could not connect again unless I reinstalled....after doing as they said....well, I am happy.....Limewire works perfectly fine now and is running in turbo boost mode too....

so if having problems and are using McAfee, thats your solution. And, yes, I am running McAfee and Limewire at the same time and both are working great.

Hope this helps someone.

It apears many new systems with McAfee installed are missing certain seemingly innocuous files until you install limewire and try to use it......still running fine now....wonder if maybe its a check for them to see who is registered or not.

seeing as alot of computers are sold without McAfee installed and are still having issues, i just want to know what was happening specifically to yours?

I don't have McAfee, I can start Limewire no problem at all, but, under no circumstances can i connect.

any information is good information, thanks.

1. OS version? Vista
2. What firewalls you have? experimented with all settings, currently off uncluding the use of other peoples internet
3. How much ram? 2 gigs
4. Hard Disk space available? 100gigs free
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) tryed both cable and DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? don't remember DSL name, but Motorola modem for cable
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? tryed both house and appartment
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. I think i have the newest version of java, didn't pay that much attention, but i tryed the most recent Limewire and Limewire beta, I got further with Beta, but still no connecting with other users, though i managed to connect to limewire
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? tryed both Rogers and Bell
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? i recieved "your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. if it doesn't work, i uninstall it and try something else, i can get Torrenting programs to work.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. experienced user, i have limewire and all sorts of other programs on my other computer, which still downloads well.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? no, but i have seen it and removed the issue on someones elses modem from my computer, did not help.

this is a computer purchased with vista already installed, it has been stable since the day i brought it home, i cannot get limewire or shareaza to connect fully to the servers no matter what connection i have going, but at the same time i can get connected on torrent programs such as bitcommet or utorrent. My other program connects to all of these programs without a hesitation.

i believe it's just an issue with the P2P programs and their incompatibility with vista, that for some reason the torrent programs can get around, i'm also not new to altering preferences in the programs to acheive best results, though i haven't put that much time and energy into limewire or shareaza to get them going besides a few installs of older and newer versions, including limewire beta.

i hope this helps, if there's anything else i will try and find out more for you guys so you have more to work with.

I might try to tinker with the programs later tonight as well as my connections to see if i can change anything, though i have doubts since the first time i tryed it, it didn't work, and the last time i tryed it after optimizing my internet connection, it still didn't work, though i was able to get my torrenting programs to run more efficiently due to this.

I'm open to any more questions or recomendations if you have any.

i'm aware after how soon after my other post this is, but i may have found a solution. I'm further researching it, but as tinkering with firewall settings i found that even when you turn off the firewall in vista, it is still running.

Just check that you have Java 6 installed, I know that you need to have this version of Java to get Limewire and vista to work together...

i'm apparently using Java 6 and i've had my limewire up and running for a few days now witout problem, though i find it uses a lot of ram, which i'm not too concerned about since i have more then enough.

how much ram do other people have it running at just out of curiosity?

for those having trouble still, type in "firewall" in your search menu, i don't know if everyone has it or not but there's 2 things that will come up, one is Firewall with advanced security, go into it.

if you go to Inbound Rules, you can scroll down to where limewire is on the list, check what setting it is at. you want to go to properties and click on "Enable" and also select "alow connections"

this is what got mine working, i don't know if it will help anyone else, but when you tell windows firewall to turn off, it definatly doesn't turn off at all. the only way to do that is to go into windows firewall with advanced settings and see what programs it's still blocking or not.
