You need to update your Java to 1.6....Use the offline installer....
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Uninstall all older versions of Java first...

Uninstall the version of LW that you have by going to Start > All Programs > Limewire...The version you have is very old....

Also make sure you are not running windows firewall and your Norton one at the same time as they will clash...Make sure the windows one is disabled...

Then if you are still having problems, check to see if you have a wall in front of the globe...(you can't see this now because of the version you are running)

If you do you will have to supply your modem/router details (you can find the make and model number under it)...

Don't start a new thread...post onto the one you've started before:rolleyes:

Did you update your Java?
Your version of LW doesn't show a firewall indicator (as WW told you before) so OF COURSE you won't see a brick wall.
Did you make sure you're not using windows firewall with Norton?
Did you look for your modem/router info?

:bangh:

Java Update?

D-Link is the router i am currently using.
How do i "update Java" (where? how??)

birdy March 20th, 2007 05:44 PM

Scroll up to post #2. Click on the blue Java link that WW has given. Make sure to use the JRE offline installer. Remove your current Java version before you install the new one.

Do you have a model number for the D-Link?

As WW said, your version of LW's really old. The latest stable release is 4.12.11.

B4 I proceed on....

if i install the newest version of LW- will that be to my benefit- vice uninstalling java- re-installing java... (on that, how do i un-install the old Java? where would that be located?? - I don't see an actual 'directory' for LW beside the LW pgm and LW Uninstall pgm.)

lastly, will there be a problem running the current LW pgm on the new Windows Vista OS??

Thanks in advance for your assistance and patience. ;)

I use XP & remove Java from Add/Remove Programs (within Control Panel)...not sure whether it's the same on Vista??

If you love your LW 4.8.1 & have the installer saved (I guess you do, to have been able to install it on a Vista PC)...you can reinstall that version whenever you like, providing the installer is saved. The newer versions of LW have a few more features & bug fixes, you can check out what's new in versions here
http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml

Other people have been able to run LW with Vista, though there have been issues with McAfee, Java & a few other things that nobody's too sure about yet...Vista's so new & it takes a while for all the problems to come to light, as more people use it we find out more info.

Have a read through the threads in this Vista section...then you'll see the sorts of problems people are having, how they're solved etc & it'll give you more of an idea about LW & Vista.

updated Java- LW still does not connect

I've installed (online at first, then again offline) the jre java- and LW still does nothing but read 'connectiing'. no bars. nothing.

I think I will have to upgrade to the latest version- but my fear is that it may STILL not work in Windows Vista.

Can u tell me positively that this will work??? :bangh:

wondering why March 23rd, 2007 01:11 AM

No we cant guarantee you that it will work, but it's worth a try....

What you should do is back up the 4.8.1 installer....So if the latest version doesn't work you will have the option to get your old version back...

To do this go to your programs folder and open up the limewire folder (it should be there by default) now you will see many files right click on the installer and cut it and paste it into your documents folder....That's it, it's safe, now you can download the newer version and give it a try...:rolleyes_2:

Just remember to save the new version to your programs folder....

Hopefully all the instructions I just gave you are the same in Vista as they are in XP....
