I did this and it allowed me to set my prefs. When I go to Tools>Options the options box flashes on the screen and then goes away. I am running 4.16.3 Any thoughts??

will using this Pref folder trick help with my problem? I'll get downloading a song, and around 80% complete i get a Blue Screen, saying "windows has encountered a problem and is shutting down" and my computer restarts. after it restarts a window comes up saying "Windows restarted successfully after being shutdown improperly." it also has a "Show details" button, and when I click it shows that the files causing the error are in my "...\AppData\Local\Temp\" folder. Will using this "delete LimeWire in Pref folder" trick help in my problem?

Something sounds like it's corrupted in the AppData\Local\Temp...

Definately give the preference folder a try...

I tried the Pref folder trick, and this problem still happened again. But i think i got it now. When it told me the errors were in the "...\AppData\Local\Temp\" folder it also told me of a error in the "..Windows\Minidump" file. thinking back this hadn't happened to me at all UNTIL i tried downloading a certain song, and midway thru, the blue error screen came up and all this started. after restarting and getting back on LimeWire, the song finished, but LimeWire popped up a box telling me this song might be a corrupted file. I deleted the song instantly, but it had already corrupted my files, i guess. So when i started checking over these error files that windows was telling me was causing the crashes, the"...Windows\Minidump" file showed that it had been created at 11:25 am the previous day....... the same time i got my first crash from the corrupted song i downloaded. I deleted the entire Minidump file, and everythings been smooth since.

Yup, sounds like you got hit with some malware. Try finding a program that will help you find malicious software types (like Spybot: S&D) and also run a full scan with your virus software.

Good luck!

What is going on with Limewire right now is TOTALLY unacceptable.
I followed Grandpa and for the first time Limewire loaded with the message of "loading internationalization support"

HOWEVER, it would not connect to the network.

So I closed it and restarted and now its back with the internationalization loading screen and stuck there.

This is ridiculous, I hate this bloody fire and as soon as Ares starts working with Vista im going back to Ares.

How can people pay for something that doesnt work?!?!?

Why should I have to go through hell to try and make something work.

This is crazy.

Can someone also better explain how to find the .limewire file because I just cannot find it. Ive searched for it followed the instructions here with no luck. What could I be doing wrong?

Well im having this EXACT same problem now.
I have tried what the member Grandpa suggested and I deleted the appropriate limewire folder and for the first time Limewire opened with saying " Loading Internalization Support"

However, Limewire refused to connect. So I closed it and upon opening it again the bloody thing is now back to sticking at "Loading Internationalization Support"

Can anyone offer any help?

I did not try installing the Java updates as im royally confused as to which one to install.

Also I could not find the .limewire file so therefore I couldnt delete it.

Why must users go through hell to have this thing work??

This is a disgrace frankly.

Ares for Vista where are you?!?1

Thanks in advance for any help you guys are able to provide.

I actually had it working great on Vista for about 9 months (with version .12 or whatever) then today it wouldn't connect at all. So, i went to LW site to upgrade version. Now I can't seem to keep a connection in the "connection" tab for more then 16 secs. Very frustrating. Wish i could go back to old version. I've tried every posted solution in these posts and support lists and no change in connection status. I have a few more hunches on where to go next. if anything comes up i'll post. Please do the same.

Install the latest Java from the link below. Use the JRE offline installer. Remove any older Java versions installed via control panel > add/remove programs (or the Vista equivalent) before installing the latest update.
Java SE Downloads

The older Java version mentioned in other threads is one to install if you still have problems after installing the latest update. Even though it's an old version, it seems to have done the trick for people who have had trouble with the latest Java update. It's posted as an alternative to the latest update.

You won't have a folder named .limewire unless you've used much older versions of LW in the past. The preferences folder used to be named .limewire in versions older than 4.9.34. Now the preferences folder is named LimeWire.

If you don't want to use LW & would rather use Ares then that's up to you.
You don't have to "go through hell to have this thing work"
We aren't developers here. Just volunteers who use LW.
If you want to vent about LW I suggest you go to this other forum...some developers might read your post there.
