Default Yet Another Connection Problem

Hi there,

I have spent countless hours trying to figure out what I'm doing...or not doing...to get LW to work. I am new (to this forum) as I haven't had but 2 responses from LW support since April 28th and I'm getting a little frustrated. I had answered all their questions but w/o any reply. I d/l LW Pro in hopes that my connectivity would be better however, it connects briefly (when I say briefly, I mean like milloseconds) and then disconnects. I have read all of the FAQ, many of the posts here, and have tried a few of the suggestions, but I get lost in the port forwarding and some of the other jargon used. Other questions that I was asked was did I change my ISP - and the answer is no I haven't. Does my ISP use a proxy or block anything. I checked with them and they said no - makes sense because nothing was blocked on my previous computer, which makes me think it can't be the router either?? I don't know.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Vista
2. What firewalls do you have? Windows and AVG - I disabled 1, then the other, and then both, and LW would still not connect.
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? INEXQ Model BR400
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.11 Java 1.6
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Shaw Cable
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? "Your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 2 computers connected through the same router, as for the p2p sharing, I'm unsure.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I used LW on my previous computer without any problem, the problem is new with this one.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? No idea, but it does work on the other computer, but not on my new one.

I've tried to answer all the questions as much as I could and offer anything else I could think of. If you could offer any help whatsoever, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Am I posting in the right place? I just realized this says "submit reply". If I'm in the wrong place, could someone direct me to the right place please.

Thank you,
Shell

Ok let's see...
I checked to see if your modem/router has a Nat firewall built in and it has, so here are your instructions to Port Forward, it's not to technical just follow each step and don't forget to set up the Static IP part as it is very important, that also has a step by step guide for Vista, just click on the link provided in the details...
Let me know how you get on...

Port Forwarding for the INEXQ BR400

Thumbs up Got It

Oh my gosh...after all the hours I've put in trying to figure this out, it was one or two simple...extremely simple...do's. Not sure if this will help you, but it may help someone out there. I went into LW/tools/options/advanced/proxy and moved the dot from HTTP to No Proxy, and then I went into Firewall Config and changed the "Listening on Port" to 64049, reconnected LW, and now I'm "turbo charged".
Woohoo, hope this helps someone.

Thank you very much, but I figured it out with a whole lot less work...I spent the whole time from my post until about 10 minutes ago doing the port forwarding thing and trying to set up a static ip (which didn't work). So thank you again for your response, but woohoo I'm "turbo charged" LOL.
