"corrupted installation".. won't install!

Hello. I have used Limewire on several other computers of mine, but I just recently got a new laptop and was trying to install it on here. I downloaded and installed it last night but once it was installed I could not get it to connect. I tried allowing it through the firewall and went through several lists of troubleshooting that I found through other posts but nothing worked. I decided to uninstall it and start over. Now, it won't even install. I am getting two messages that I don't understand. The first message: "your save folder is not valid it may have been deleted or you may not have permissions to write to it or there may be another problem, please choose a different folder." I don't know what this is referring to because I didn't even have the option to choose a folder yet. Next, it said: Fatal Error. Limewire has encountered a fatal error and will now exit... generally caused by corrupted installation..." So, right now I don't have it downloaded or installed because it simply won't work. Help, please!

operating system- windows vista
gnutella- limewire 4.12
internet- cable/wireless (atlantic bb/linksys router)

Reinstall Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before installing the new one.
Java SE Downloads

Delete LW's preferences folder. See point 3 below (also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past). This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through & reset things afterwards.

Check this thread for how to show hidden files & folders in Vista.

Now reinstall LW & make sure to use the offline installer (not the recommended one).

Thanks for the link for Vista, I was wondering how to find the hidden folders.

However... I did all of that and it went through the part where I selected English as the language, etc, so I thought it was going to work, but again the "fatal error" message popped up before limewire even opened, so it has still not installed!

Any other ideas?

You are using the offline LW installer, aren't you (the online one has more problems with corruption)?

You could always try the 'other' installer...that's worked for a few people who haven't been able to use the normal installers;)

I did both but kept getting the same message. I was finally able to download version 4.13.. but, it won't connect; there is only one green bar. I have norton antivirus and I went in and made sure LimeWire was allowed through the firewall, so I don't know what else to do. Sorry to be a pain!

Sorry for the late reply....I'm painting walls here:cry:

Double check your Norton configuration, or even totally reconfigure it.

PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Your router has an internal firewall. Try port forwarding. Have a look at this site, there's no WRT54G v6 listed but check the instructions for the other WRT54G routers & see if they look the same as yours config-wise.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP (the instructions are all in there if you follow the link...it's not as complicated as it looks;)). LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within a router all have to be the same number!
