Struggling to Connect - Office LAN Hi - I'm new here but have used Limewire Pro for quite some time now. I have just upgraded to Vista on my laptop and encouraged a colleague to try the basic version of Limewire on his XP run laptop - both are unable to connect through the office LAN. My previous installation of Office XP, which is still bootable on my laptop, still manages a healthy Limewire connection using the LAN in our office (despite the brickwall image in front of the globe) I have ran through the settings on both machines to match the existing install on my old OS but still get nothing. The configurations are detailed below: 1. 2 machines - 1 Vista and 1 XP SP2 2. Vista has windows firewall only - XP has ZoneAlarm (doesn't work even with ZA closed down) 3. 2GB RAM on Vista; 1GB on XP 4. 60+ GB Available HDD on Vista; 35+ GB on XP 5. Office/Corporate LAN for both 6. N/A - see above 7. Work 8. LW Pro 4.12.11 on Vista and Java 1.5.0_03 9. Corporate Connection for ISP 10. Got a 'test worked' response from test on both machines 11. Complex office network sharing files and printer but not programmes 12. Used Limewire hundreds of times before both from work and from home 13. Brick wall is shown in front of globe on both machines now and also when booting with old OS 14. Previous version on XP worked using UPnP so tried this first - also tried using a proxy connection but failed (both machines) 15. No A/V on Vista at the moment; only ZA on XP machine (LW still cannont connect when ZA is shut down) 16. Living in the UK Any help and/or assistance would be much appreciated. |
You will have problems running 2 software firewalls. Choose one or the other. Then configure the one you choose to allow LW full access; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Might be an idea to have a look thru the Vista section of the forums also. Such as the Stickies there. |

LOTR - I think you have mis-read my post....... i have two machines here, both with their own firewall on - not 2 firewalls on one machine. Hope this clarifies it a little? |
Sorry. I am not good at lan or business connection issues. Make sure each machine is not using the same port to connect thru. ie: Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls. You could try changing one to between ports 49152 - 65535. A good one to try is 64049 |
So, is there anything you can suggest for either machine that may help? I have checked through the firewall stuff and everything has been tried. I have also tried about a dozen different proxies to no avail. If it wasn't for the previous install on XP still operating, I would have assumed that the IT dept here had done something to prevent P2P being used. But that cannot be the case as I have rebooted this morning using the XP OS on this same laptop and used LW successfully. Thanks in advance....... |
Sorry to play ignorant again, but I have never used Vista but am aware it apparently has issues of its own. That's why I suggested you look around in that forum. In fact, I will move your thread to that section. Hopefully some of the Vista knowledgable members will be able to advise. I will send a PM to one of them. |
Thanks for your help LOTR. Appreciated. |
The IT department may have done something with your old XP that they haven't yet done with the new XP and Vista. Each install of an operating system has its own unique ID the IT department may have allowed unlimited Internet service to your old XP install. But you may have Limited service on the Vista install. Remember that each OS will be seen as different computers on the LAN. The best thing for you to do at this point is talk to the Network administrator and see if you have any restrictions on your Vista or your partners XP. My bet is there is, most businesses have restrictions on there networks. |
