LW plus Vista

My problem may not be unique but I haven't read anything that comes close to what I am experiencing. Loading LW causes the screen to go all wierd (not the best way to describe it, but it is like a film negative with more color), it is stuck at attempting to connect, when pulling down the file menu the only choice that comes in clearly is Connect. This is my system specs
1. OS version? Windows Vista
2. What firewalls you have? McAffe Security Centre
3. How much ram? Plenty
4. Hard Disk space available? Plenty
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? D-Link
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Latest of both, just downloaded beat version of LW
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Shaw - Canada
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 'Your test worked'
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes, one laptop and one desktop - running XP
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I've used it plenty times before.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? no - can't see anything down there when I load LW, like I said before whole screen gets a wee funky. If I am not mistaken I believe I have the MSN firewall turned off (How can I determine if the firewall is active or not?)

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? No Idea, how do I check?
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. Avast! and Windows default programs. McAfee Security system.

[wondering why]

McAfee is a big one for connecting issues and having McAfee and Avast is not such a good idea as they can clash with each other and leave you unprotected...Also you should only run 1 firewall, choose which one you want and disable the others..

It sounds like a graphics issue, but normally when you run Vista-McAfee-Limewire, limewire will close down, maybe your screen is going funky instead...

It could also be a Java issue...So firstly try this...
Uninstall your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Then try deleting your preference folder...

If that does not help, you may have to have a look at McAfee...These threads explain different ways members got their set ups running smoothly...

So hopefully those fixes will get you up and running, but (there's always a but) if you configure McAfee correctly and you still see a firewall icon, your D-Link could have a Nat Firewall...
