![]() I am no expert, very much a novice user with LW. I had used free Limewire without any issues for about 6 months. Recently upgraded to the Pro version and the application worked beautifully with quick connection and downloads for about 2 weeks, now it just sits in "waiting for connection" mode. I have reviewed many of your posts, tried several things and cannot seem to find an answer. I have not tried everything. There are things posted that I don't know how to do, sorry. I have tried logging in at home, at work and at Starbucks...all the same issue. This is my first time posting.... 1. OS version? Vista Business edition 2. What firewalls you have? MS and McAfee (but I think I have them disabled, but the firewall icon in LW still shows...??) 3. How much ram? 2G 4. Hard Disk space available? 100G 5. Connection type? cable modem 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Motorola SURFboard Model 5120 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW=4.12.11 Pro, Java = 1.6.0_01 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Cox cable in California (not AK) 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? tests works fine 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no, I think they are disabled, this was one of the things I tried to disable in LW 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. relatively new user, have downloaded only a few songs 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes, but I think the firewalls are diabled, but still shows http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? i don't know how to check this, the settings are the default as far as I know 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Microsoft regular firewall and McAfee (I think they are disabled) 16. What country are you living in? USA |

![]() Quite a few Vista users have had problems with McAfee ![]() Vista + McAfee 2007 + LimeWire = dropping connection “No Compromise” Vista-McAfee-Limewire Solution Can't Connect With VISTA! Some people have also had problems with Java 1.6.0_01. You could try this older version & see whether that makes a difference. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one. Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 Try the McAfee fixes first though, some people can run the latest Java update without a problem ![]() If you end up removing McAfee, configure the Windows firewall to allow LW. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/274003-post2.html Do you have a router as well as the modem? That model of modem doesn't have an internal firewall but if there's a router as well...that could have a firewall. |

![]() Wow - simply unbelievable! Tried the fix that BasRuiter posted under Vista + McAfee 2007 + LimeWire = dropping connection and it WORKED!!! I feel so relieved...how do I thank you two??? This is great! Here is what fixed my problem: ![]() To narrow down where the issue lies, could you try the following: - click Start - click Run - type: services.msc - click OK - right-click on the McAfee Redirector service - click Stop - try LimeWire again to see if the issue still occurs Note: don't forget to Start the service again after testing (or reboot the PC). I am so happy now, thanks! |
