Default Connection Problem

Hi, I recently got a new computer with Vista Home Premium. I installed Limewire version 4.12.6 but it wont connect past the first bar. I looked in the connections tab and there is nothing there. There is a Brickwall infront of the blue world. Ok ill stop talking now and give you the list:
1. OS version? Windows Vista Premium

2. What firewalls you have? Zonealarm 7.1.078.000

3. How much ram? 2 GB

4. Hard Disk space available? 164 GB

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ADSL 768KB

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? D-Link 524 and Westell Modem 6100

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW: 4.12.6 and Java 1.6.0_02

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Bellsouth/AT&T (not sure b/c of the merger)

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your Test Worked!

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Nope

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Used it with windows XP for a few years

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I have a bridged modem over to my router but not sure about port forwarding or UPnP.

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall AVG Free Edition 7.5.476

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA

Thanks a TON, PvpMan22

Hiya PvpMan22...
You are so firewalled..
Firstly use this guide to configure limewire and ZoneAlarm...
"this link should read ZoneAlarm not DLink"
Port Forwarding for the Dlink DI-604

Ok then your DLink has it's own Nat Firewall and these are the instructions on opening a port for limewire to pass through...
Port Forwarding for the Dlink DI-524

And to top it off your modem also has a Nat Firewall and needs to be port forwarded as well....
Port Forwarding for the Westell 6100

After all of that let me know how you get on...

I tried the first thing but unfortunately i don't have zone alarm pro so I couldn't find the options to change port forwarding.

The second thing I tried, got the static-ip, and then let it port forward.

The third I don't think i could quite do because my Modem is bridged. I'm not sure if that allows port forwarding.

Also I kept the port 6346 because when i tried to make a port over 10000 to 60000 limewire froze.

With my router allowing the port through i turned off zone alarm and tested to see if it would work but still it was at 1 bar still trying to connect...

Also I had the same sort of setup with my router/modem before and an older zonealarm and Limewire worked on windows XP. Could it be Vista or the new zonealarm?

I think from memory (don't quote me) but when your modem is bridged you don't have to port forward...

With the freezing try this..
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Once you have done that go back and try the Port Forwarding for your router and use one of the higher numbers eg.64049...

With ZoneAlarm, I'm a little unsure, another Vista user had trouble with their's as well, they ended up uninstalling it and using something else...

Another thing to look at as well is AT&T they are known for shaping p2p connections...
Router Blocking Limewire!

Yeah I uninstalled java and installed the offline one you gave the link to and changed my port to 23000 on the router. Then I tried changing the the port on limewire and once again it froze. I think you might be right about the ISP blocking my connection but not sure about the freezing thing.

I did an experiment and found that Zultrax P2P 4.15 Free Version worked even though it uses the same port, 6346, that limewire uses. So I have no idea what this means but I think Limewire just doesn't like my new computer...
