Well, I've deleted LW's preferenced folder and nothing different happened. I still get only one bar, and when I try to make a search, I receive this message saying that Limewire is still trying to connect. PLEASE HELP ME!!

Try the latest version of LW (4.14.0)...see if that behaves any differently.
When you click to download & the download box pops up...cancel that. Now you'll see the option to download the offline installer, use that one

I did everything you said and nothing works. I think I'm gonna try a different software. What do you recommend?

You could try BearShare (this version that Aaron recommends).
