How do i play .avi video files

i am having problems playing .avi videos i want to know how i go about downloading the codec or whatevers necessary to play these .avi video files??? NEED HELP PLEASE!!!! :-(:bangh::shoot:

Try installing the VLC media player, it has all the codecs pre-installed and can play just about all files...
