Question Cannot Connect... tried everything... need major help please!

Hi

I have just downloaded Limewire, and it will not connect. I only get one bar, and says it is trying to connect to the network. I am currently running Windows Vista Ultimate. Before when I had Windows XP, Limewire ran perfectly fine.

I have tried everything. I have configured Windows Firewall, I have went to Port Forward and followed instructions to my Actiontec GT704-WG router, and I still can't do it. I even did all the suggestions on the Limewire options. I have no more options. I have even tried Frostwire, and I still can't connect. Even my uTorrent can't get anything either.

I would appreciate all the help I can get. I am really stuck. Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate it!

And here is some information that is useful for you to help me out, to make things easier.

1. OS version? Windows Vista Ultimate
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall
3. How much ram? 512 mb
4. Hard Disk space available? 40 GB
5. Connection type? Wireless
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Actiontec GT704-WG
7. Where are you trying to connect from? My home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire 4.14.8-----Java 1.5.0_11
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider) Verizon DSL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? My test worked, althogh I still can't connect.
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I am on wireless connection from my router. My other desktop computer is connected via ethernet. We do not share anything.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. When I had Windows XP, Limewire worked perfectly, and back then I had a Westell 6100 modem. My Actiontec router is brand new.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 Yes I do.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Trying to do both. no avail.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Just Windows Firewall and Windows Defender.
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country USA

Default

I think i've cracked it!! please everyone try this
Hello all,

I had to join up and post back because.....

WOO-HOO, MY LIMEWIRE WORKS!!!!!
(for the moment rite)

Bas- you da man.

I'm runnin vista home Premium on a dell 640m laptop. 1.66 duo2. 1024ram. 80G HD.

1. What McAfee programs are installed, and which version?
McAfee Security center 7.2
Virus Scan 11.2
Personal Firewall 8.2
Spam Killer 8.2
Privacy Service 9.2

2. Are you able to identify which McAfee program is the cause of the issue.
Tried "- click Start
- click Run
- type: services.msc
- click OK
BUT THEN

VERY IMPORTANT>>>>>>

I DOUBLE CLICKED McFEE RE-DIRECT LINE AS BAS SAID, CLICKED "STOP" AND ALSO THE SELECTED "DELAYED START UP automatic" FROM THE LIST.

Its downloading faster than i can decide what to look for. (30kb/s average on 2meg virgin BB, even just from 1 host, faster if more) about 2mins per track-is that fast?

Also your LW must be set to run on start up- this is so LW kicks in before Mc-afee does. you can open and exit LW after that many times in a session and it has run fine 10 hours since first post now at 5 + reboots
Do give the green bars a min or two to kick in tho.

What version of LimeWire (Pro) are you using?
4.14.8

4. What ports have you configured for LimeWire? Does the issue exist if you try different ports?
didnt need try

5. Opening ports in the McAfee Firewall:
- didnt need try

6. What other solutions / work-arounds have you tried already?
Also:
I dont know if this did anything tho its worth a go But i read somewhere about a limewire>aero interface conflict so i changed my Desktop apperance to windows classic (yea i had forgot what it looked like too, like a breeze block!) just before i did the "Mcfee, services.msc, redirect" thing. Limewire started working so i changed it back to Aero BASIC (why stress your machine on colours n shades)and its still working.

Did it matter , i dunno but hey.

This is my first post here so i hope it made somes day?
