Right click on LW's desktop icon > properties > compatibility. Run in compatibility mode for XP...see if that helps.

Did you try this Java version (just in case you missed this one):
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Uninstall any other Java versions before you install this one.

Did you make sure that LW was properly closed (check in Task Manager) before deleting the preferences folder?

Are you using the online installer to install LW? Remove the Java 1.6 again. Restart your computer. Now reinstall LW but make sure to use the offline installer. When you click to download LW & the download box pops up - cancel it. Now use the option to download the offline installer. Installing the new version of LW will automatically remove the old one.

I tried all of the suggestions on this site to get it to work. None of them worked as indicated. I did finally get Limewire to run on my vista box. Here's how:

Delete temp files (Windows folder and Username folder)
Delete Limewire pref's from the Username folder
Uninstall all java from your system
Uninstall Limewire
Restart computer
Go to this site and download (OFFLINE version) of java
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Install java
Locate your Limewire Pro installer
Start Limewire installation (do NOT RUN at the end)
Go back to Add/Remove Programs
Delete the version of java Limewire just installed
You should only have the version you JUST downloaded (5 update 11)
Confirm there is only ONE version of java on your system
Start Limewire

That's how I got mine to run.
