My Vista and McAfee Solution worked

I was trying to run LW on Vista Home Premium and my internet connection crashed everytime I started LW. I also have McAfee Security Center running. After trying all recommendations w/o any luck. I searched and found the following fix for internet connection problems w/Vista and I'll be dammed it worked for me. I have LW & McAfee running as I type. Give it a try

  3. In the Network and Sharing Center window, click Manage network connections.
  4. In the Network Connections window, right-click the network connection you are trying to use (Wireless or Local Area Connection), and then click Properties.
  5. In the Properties dialog box, on the Networking tab, in the This connection uses the following items: area, click to clear check mark from Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). Click OK.
  6. Shut down Windows, restart the computer, and then try connecting to the Internet.
Change the adapter settings for TCP/IPv4.
  1. In the Network Connections window, right-click the network connection you are trying to use (Wireless or Local Area Connection), and then click Properties.

We will have to troubleshoot our way through this...;)

Try Port Forwarding as your router has an inbuilt Nat Firewall...
These are your instructions...
Port Forwarding for the Belkin F5D7230-4

Let me know how that goes, even if the wall doesn't disappear, leave the port forward set up that you do...

Don't give up just yet, there are still a few more things to try...

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s...This will reset your configurations back to default and get rid of any corruption that may of happened...;)

i believe this problem started when i hooked up new router, will check ..but when i unhooked the router and went directly though modem lw still made the net crash

wondering why October 5th, 2007 03:09 AM

Just double check that you have port forwarded correctly...

What Port number did you use ??
Did you only use just that number in the TCP and UDP boxes ??
Did you use that number in the manual port forward option and the listening port option in limewire ??
Did you get your static IP set up correctly ??

Try the preference folder again, you said you couldn't locate it...
You have to access the hidden folder, it's all in the links I gave you....

Unfortunatley Limewire doesn't give refunds...

That's a totally different topic to this thread. Your problem has been posted many times by others. Search for them to see suggested solutions. ;) :)

Suddenly can't connect on Vista

I, too can't connect on my Vista computer AND actually did follow the instructions in networking and sharing and restarted. I fouind my old winxp that takes 30 minutes to boot up..taking 20 minutes to load limewire 4.14 or.4? Well anyway, ALL BARS WERE GREEN on this old beaten up laptop. Both are on same route. We wired linsyks wireless. New Vista cannot connect..only one bar shows..test worked. unchecked the 6 but had to recheck the 4 on those indtructions. Also, my configuration did not give me the options with all of that 4 stuff. Do you think it has to do with the versions? I cannot use the newest itunes but can the last version prior? :shoot:

Problems after Vista SP1

LM was working like a champ. Upgrading to Vista SP1 and now its hosed. I tried all the setting in the thread with no luck. I also turned McCafee firewall off. LW will not connect.

I log off of my primary user account and into a test user account and LW connects. The only difference is that on the test account LW went through the initial setup as it was never setup under that user account.

I have uninsulated LW, went through the registry deleting all references to LW. Deleted the LW folder . Still no luck.

Bichons9 November 8th, 2008 11:16 AM

Is there a similar program to Limewire? I was not pleased with IMESH. We know it's not the router or cable company if my old winxp can run limewire and my new vista home premium suddenly can't. however, i started having issues with BitTorrent...restored to 3 days ago and is almost back to normal..almost. maybe, it's out of our control.

Lord of the Rings November 8th, 2008 04:33 PM

erm .. make sure each LW version running on your network is using a different connection port (& listening port), as sometimes modems/routers will reserve a particular port for a particular computer or user account or specific program. :)

Bichons9 November 9th, 2008 10:29 AM

Well, I got so tired of changing things, I downloaded Frostwire and it works perfectly..If this sounds stupid it probably is...How would I know what to change the listening port to? I changed the listening port, restarted and changed it back and I saw no change on the Vista. I am not skilled enough to keep changing things on my pc, like registry keys, etc. I have done that to make Itunes work on Vista. Finally had to revert to a previous version to make it work. I:confused:t seems that my computer updated Itunes to a newer version without me realizing it and it knocked out my DVD ROM.. maybe that is what those mac commercials are telling us..Vista is sooo screwed up for me at least....but thanks for the info.

'Sometimes' installing FW can help get LW running & connected, however if that didn't happen you might be just as happy with FW. :)

ricey7174 January 24th, 2009 03:42 PM

I had to uninstall limewire pro and now I cant reinstall it

Lord of the Rings January 24th, 2009 08:18 PM

How did you try to uninstall it? If you used the control panel -> install/uninstall programs that is the incorrect way.

Normal way is Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall.

Try this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html, however use your Pro installer instead. :)

Also, delete your previous LW preferences folder before you reinstall: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) or for vista see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html
