I can not connect

LW doesn't connect anymore. :(
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Vista
2. What firewalls you have? Windows firewall (Disabled permently)& Alarm Zone Free
3. How much ram? 2.5Gig
4. Hard Disk space available? 320 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? SpeedStream 5200-Series
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.14.10 , java 1.6.0_02
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Windstream
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Says “Your test worked!!”
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I been using limewire for 3 years. This is a new problem.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP mode disabled port forwarding on IP Address 192.168.254.1
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Avast! Anti-Virus and Windows Defender
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA

I have very little experance with a computer. I'm quite dumb when it comes to computers and
don't understand much. I have a mental disability and I get confused very easily.

Please help.

Go through these suggestions one by one, hopefully something here will help!

1. First of all, try uninstalling both LW & ZA. Rinstall LW first & after that, reinstall ZA...that's been a fix for a few Vista users.
Make sure that LW is allowed through the ZA firewall.

2. Make sure that there's not a Windstream firewall causing problems. Read post #7 of this thread (click on link) & see how another Windstream user fixed their problem!

3. Try using this older version of Java. Download the JRE offline installer, remove any other Java versions & then install this version.

4. Try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's completely shut down. If that doesn't help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).

This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

5. Double check your port forwarding. Or remove the port forwarding rules that you've set up, then add them again. Here are the instructions for your router.

It quit working again. :mad::mad::mad::mad:
It keeps detecting that stupid firewall.
I even tried the other options you posted in this post
and it doesn't solve it. What's going on here?
Piece of crap.

Sorry, I didn't give you the right link about a Windstream firewall in my other post...here it is.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/218807-post7.html

Just to clarify...are there no connection bars at all, or connection bars but the firewall icon's showing?

Are you running as administrator?
LimeWire 4.14.7 won't work!!!!

Right click on the LW icon on your desktop > properties > compatibility (that's for XP, hope it's the same for Vista) & run in compatibility mode for XP.

When you deleted LW's preferences folder, did all of your settings within options change? If things didn't change back to default, means that the prefs folder wasn't deleted properly.

Yes, I run everything as administrator all the time, and my router doesnt have a built in firewall. I checked with Windstream about it and they said mine doesn't have one. So it must be something else new nobody encountered yet.

Well, the user guide says that your router has a firewall:p

Did all of your settings revert to default, after you deleted the prefs?

First of all, double check that windows firewall's off & that Mcafee's allowing LW. You could try removing the rules for LW within Mcafee's configuration & then add new rules for LW.
Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center

Next thing to try is deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. This is often a fix when people suddenly can't connect. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).

Here are some McAfee links. You can also use the forum search to look for more threads;)

Windstream said that there was a misprint in the user guide and they assured me that there was no firewall on it. If there was, I would have had it dismantled a long time ago. :p Like I did with Vista Firewall. I shut off the service that ran it so I know that it was permanently disabled. When I deleted the prefs nothing happened either. Whatever it is, I went through it with a fine tooth comb and I just can't pin it down. :bangh:
I think I might as well accept defeat. *Surrenders*
