wondering why September 30th, 2007 03:03 PM

Try Port Forwarding, you have the same modem/router as mine but you have the v6 and they have a Nat Firewall within...

Port Forwarding for the Alcatel SpeedTouch 536v6

oldarney September 30th, 2007 03:37 PM

thats very funny, didn't i just say mr.lime commits suicide.
plus if i turn off the router, it still crashes. i have utorrent with upnp disabled and it says the connection is good.

oldarney September 30th, 2007 04:40 PM

it dose not work on xp. exactly the same problem. what does this mean. i already un installed the network adapter to see, but nothing. unplugged the ethernet cable, nothing.

wondering why October 1st, 2007 02:15 AM

So when you turn off your modem/router what in the hell are you connecting to, to get a internet connection...

And your video didn't show me anything but the fact you are blocked by a firewall....

oldarney October 2nd, 2007 02:30 PM

i can see the possibility of me having a firewall. the routers firewall is disabled(it says so).
windows firewall is disabled. and avg antivirus doesn't have a firewall. since it occurs in xp too i think it some sort of hardware incompatibility.

wondering why October 2nd, 2007 02:41 PM

How about just humouring me by trying the Port Forwarding...

kkeevviinn October 2nd, 2007 08:09 PM

yeah im having a similar problem. Limewire gets to loading peers and then craps out, leaving its process running (which you can't end...:bangh:) I got limewire to successful load up by uninstalling java version 6 update 3 reinstalling java 5 update 12, running limewire in xp compatiblilty and just for kicks running it as an administrator. However it doesn't even try to connect. I can download torrents with it but thats about it... which is too bad because I loved limewire..:shoot:

oldarney October 3rd, 2007 03:35 AM

port forwarding requires me to know the port that limewire is using. and just how do i figure out the port if it shoots it self in about 3 seconds. (i will be looking for some sort of xml file for this)

wondering why October 3rd, 2007 03:49 AM

No it doesn't, you choose the port you want to use...Try 64049, it explains it all in the instructions I gave you...

Try this....

Try installing PeerGuardian, it will help keep the fake hosts out...Remember to enable PG just before you start limewire up...;)

Another thing if you are using limewire 4.13 and later you can apply this hostile list...

i Have port forwarded over a dozen times for my torrent programs. it REQUIRES the port limewire is using. not any random port. look at the page you gave me, it specifies to use the port limewire is using.

wondering why October 3rd, 2007 04:01 AM

Your doing my head in seriously....

This is what it says, please read it...

In the Router Configurations section we want to put a dot into the Manual Port Forward radio button. Now we need to select a port to use for LimeWire. It doesn't really matter what port you choose, but a port between 10000 and 60000 would be a good idea. These higher numbered ports are rarely blocked by ISPs. Once you have chosen a port please enter that port number into the box to the right of the Manual Port Forward box. That port should also be put into the Listen on Port box. I also need to you enter that port number into the box below.

You can CHANGE the port LW is using yourself. That's why WW suggested trying a different port. But don't choose a port anything else is using ... be it another computer or another program or even the same program but different user account. Although not necessary, it is better to do a separate port forwarding for each of TCP & UDP (can improve performance from the router in some situations).

oldarney October 3rd, 2007 11:33 AM

Before we can forward ports for LimeWire, we need to figure out what ports LimeWire is using. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that. Go ahead and open up LimeWire.

PortForward.com

it seems someone here is blind. can anyone give me a solution please.

what part of "i cant open limewire" aren't you people getting.

wondering why October 3rd, 2007 01:03 PM

You didn't exactly say that you couldn't even get limewire started, I read you post as saying that you cannot connect to any peers...
My Bad...

Do this....

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....

oldarney October 3rd, 2007 02:34 PM

wow, you read my mind. any ways i uninstalled all versions of java and theyr updates. get this, IT starts. without java? whats going on. i closes its self in the same place. how is this even possible.

oldarney October 3rd, 2007 02:48 PM

well, i installed 5.11 and still does the same. going to reinstall limewire now.

EDIT: i reinstalled and nothing. im now believing there is a ghost inside my pc.

wondering why October 4th, 2007 02:51 AM

Try this...

Right-click the Limewire icon and go to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)

If you still have no luck try the preference folder/s again....

Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should
LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

kkeevviinn October 4th, 2007 10:18 AM

I tried the windows NT and 2000 thing. Windows just tells me it experienced an error and had to close limewire and is checking for a solution and so on.
Hey i dont know how closely you work with the developers but are they working on a fix or a new release of some kind?
And brisbane's a nice place I pass through there on occassion.

foolofthehill October 4th, 2007 11:07 AM

Glad that I haven't stepped into this nice conversation at an earlier stage........guess I would have had to borrow the buttered broomstick of our fellow friend Peerless.........well, never mind...

Here is my 5-cent-worth...

Sometimes one has to do a real hardcore clean cut (i.e. uninstall) of limewire due to some registry conflicts (as I have already experienced).

So, my suggestion would be:

LimeWire uninstall via START>Program>LimeWire>Uninstall
Then restart of the computer followed by a search of all remaining folders (including the Preference Folder& the Complete/Incomplete Folder) via START>Search for Files and Folders using the search query " limewire "

Then one should go to START>Run and type " regedit ". In the opening window one should use the search for all registry entries referring to LimeWire by using the same search query.
Afterwards a restart of the computer is advisable.....

Next step would be to uninstall Java (all present versions) via START>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs.
Another restart after that is required.

From that point on one should have the off-line installer of both LW and the desired Java version as JRE (5.11 would be fine I guess) handy.

Firstly install the Java in safe mode and restart the computer.
Secondly install LW also in safe mode and restart again...

Cheers

Uninstall all versions of Java 6. (Any version of Java 5 is fine, it seems).

THIS IS THE PROBLEM.

And we just have to wait until the developers come out with a solution.

wondering why October 5th, 2007 03:23 PM

Did you uninstall all Java versions you had from the add/remove programs ??

oldarney October 5th, 2007 04:27 PM

yes, i uninstalled all versions of java before installing the 5.11 . well i'm not sure what this means but in linux (ubuntu). lime wire is working to perfection (well almost). its not my router i think we can establish that.

why is image shack blocked. ill be looking in to that my self.
here is the image

It was commonly used by spammers/trolls to post filthy pics on forums, thus we felt it wiser to ban the site from here. There are hundreds of other host sites. ;)

I see nothing wrong with the image shown, is that your linux version? Other than sharing zero files I see nothing abnormal off-hand.

BTW don't use same port to connect as any other computers or your linux LW else your router will probably block it out.

I'd recommend setting up a test account, a virgin account that has never been used before. Then try using LW in that one.

oldarney October 12th, 2007 03:46 PM

so long and thanks for all the fish.

well i guess that's giving up till next version. :shoot:

all links will now be obsolete.

somethin odd

something extremely odd happened about a month ago. so i was doi LIMEWIRE STARTED for no apperent reason. i had no clue what had happened in the last 2 weeks i hadn't tryed to open it. i erased vista and installed it again since i had to change my motherboard because it went a bust. and now i cant start it. ima gonna try to do what the roxio representative told me to do once. start vista in diagnostic mode. tell you if a iget any good results.

oldarney November 23rd, 2007 04:50 PM

found the culprit

Britannica encyclopedia is evil. it installs quick time for java witch is apparently what breaks limewire. i just wished i had known this sooner. thanks for all you help.
