Default Recent Problem all Music Downloads songs cut in out during last 20 seconds song end

Does anyone know how to help ? I've downloaded music from Lime Wire to my Windows Media Player & just recently experienced a new problem. When listening to all of the songs each song cuts in & out during the last 20 seconds before the song ends. I spent all weekend trying to troubleshoot the problem, updated Windows Media Player, codec, Lime wire 4.14.10 and Java 1.6.0_02 I'm using Cox Cable on a fairly new Dell Computer using Windows Vista, I have lots of Ram Hard Disk Space. I downloaded new music to a different media player and the same thing happened so the problem is coming from Lime Wire.

What format are the files (mp3, wma etc)? Had you made any changes just prior to the problem starting (update/upgrade firewall or other software, any changes in hardware)?

Thanks for responding. All songs are mp3 with no changes or updates/upgrades to firewall & no changes to software. I have McAfee which scans each time I log on to computer.

Are you launching songs from the media player(s) or from within LW's library?

Try disabling McAfee's firewall. Turn on the Windows firewall & configure it to allow LW. Now download a file & see if the same thing happens. Sometimes, if a firewall's really aggressive it can lead to some corruption of files.

Have you tried any other p2p apps & if so, does the same thing happen? If you like, give BearShare or Phex a try & see how they go.
Get Phex - PhexWiki

If you want to try BearShare, use the version mentioned here. You'll need to use BearStart as well...there are links for download within this thread.
BearShare has been sabotaged.

I'm downloading songs from LW & moving them to Windows Media Player 11, Burn, playlist. Once there I listen to the songs from Windows Media Playlist. But before I caught the problem I burned a couple of CD's which were really choppy & bad, but now the problem occurs just at the last 20 seconds. This eve I moved a new song from LW to a different player/burn/playlist and listened to the song & it has the same problem, that site had a clock that's how I was able to see the problem began at 20 sec before the songs ended. The worst problem now is that the songs are all being shared from my LW. I don't know if I should delete all of the bad songs because they are being shared. I'll try to figure out how to block McAfee & use windows Fire wall. I haven't used Phex or Bearshare. (Whats that message "BearShare has been sabotaged ? ")

Try launching the songs from within LW's library & launch them with a different player, not WMP.

Am I understanding properly - you never used to have this problem & songs played fine thru WMP & burned to disc without the end being messed up? Have you tried downloading files from different sources...same song but a different version of it from a different source than the original download (eg higher bitrate, or download from a modem source rather than cable/dsl etc)? If you have songs in your library that used to sound fine, do they still play without a problem?

You can stop sharing files from your LW library. Right click the file > stop sharing file. Or if it's a whole folder that contains the crappy songs, stop sharing that folder (tools > options > sharing). You can delete things later on, if you want to, but for now I'd stop sharing them.

The title of that thread's just referring to how later versions of BS weren't working properly & gives a link to an expired beta version of BS which works well

Thanks Birdy you have been very helpful I really appreciate it !
I launched a song on LW which was downloaded previously in July, it played fine but once I moved it to WMP & played it same problem, cut in & out last 20 seconds. Never had a problem with WMP before except for the 2 weeks so it must be WMP. I did change the security firewall to allow exceptions for windows, LW and WMP but still had the problem. Any suggestions to which new burn/player I should obtain ?

I use iTunes Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes
WinAmp's very good as well Download Winamp Media Player 5.35 - Upgrade to Pro for Premium Features

Was there some update for WMP within the last couple of weeks? Maybe a M$ update that effected WMP? I don't like WMP but if you do, you could check out whether an update was recently released. I'm not a Vista user so I don't know whether earlier versions of WMP are compatible with Vista!

Thanks again Birdy. Not sure what happened to WMP but I updated it today & it didn't fix the problem. I downloaded WINAMP & Itunes, but I'm not used to the format on WINAMP. Tried to drag from LW but couldn't figure it out. I found their playlists & watched a couple AOL videos which was cool. I'll work on it some more tomorrow. I wish I could figure out what happened to WMP, no M$ updates that I know of. It was very easy to drag from LW, Burn CD & Sync to MP3 player Their Library has Album covers. Too bad its got a virus, But thanks again for your help & support, you're great to work with, I appreciate the time you spent helping me tonight, you are awesome !

I hardly use Winamp, so I can't help you there.

If you need more info about iTunes, check out this sticky. Don't let the title fool you...heaps of info & links for lots of iTunes issues
Transferring music to iPod & iTunes

Good luck!
