Default HeY All....(won't connect)

1. OS version? Vista
2. What firewalls you have? Zone Alarm
3. How much ram? 2 gig
4. Hard Disk space available? 250 gig
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? linksys WRT54G
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Apartment
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? LW 4.14.10 Java 6.0.30.5
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? yeah i go the 'your test worked message'... but it doesn't! lol...
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? not that i know of
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new prob... fairly experienced user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yeah it's detecting a firewall
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP enabled
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? ZoneAlarm
16. What country are you living in? USA

So... I formerly used a different comp w/ XP installed and ZoneAlarm running. No problems. When I got this new laptop with vista I had to do the trick where I run LW on the XP platform or whatever and it at least loaded up all the way then.

It seems to be a Vista thing... Like I said, I used LW with ZoneAlarm on my other compy (even using Comcast as my ISP) with no problems before. The only difference I know of this time around is that now I'm wireless through the router and using Vista. I tried using Ne0teric's fix to no avail.

Any idears? Thanks much...

ok.... i went throught the static IP address thing and port forwarding and all it did was freeze up LW when I made the changes. I had to end it and restart it and when i reentered the ports it just gave me an error saying the port was not available. *sigh*

Sorry man I have never had to portforward so I can't really offer any advise on this but I know that a lot of members have had great success doing this. Just take your time and do exactly as the directions say.

There are a couple Mods that come here frequently that know more about this. Maybe they will help assist you. Again sorry, I have been fortunate enough, Not to have to do this.

Thanks for your help. I'm still having issues. The only thing I have not tried is reinstalling zonealarm, but i've shut it down completely with no success either. I've go the windows vista firewall shut down as well. if anyone else knows what to do let me know. I also tried setting up a static IP or whatever. No help....

update.... I uninstalled both LW and ZA as well as uninstalling my Java and installing 5.whatever. Then I reinstalled with the offline installer for LW. This worked and I could now connect. However when I reinstalled ZA it prevented connection again. I checked to make sure that ZA allowed LW through the firewall and it appears to have been set up right. Even with just disabling ZA it was blocking LW. (No, I don't have windows firewall turned on)

So now I'm back to running LW without ZA isntalled. I don't like being 'naked' like this. Any other directions to point me?
