Vista Parental controls problem connecting This is on my daughter computer. I have 2 user accounts setup, mine is a administrator accounter hers is a standard user account. When I enable parental control on her account limewire will not connect, the bar in the bottum left only has one green line, and I get a message that limewire can't connect to the network. After disabling parental controls the connection to limewire still doesn't work. :shoot: The only solution was to delete her account and recreate the account and disable parenal controls. I would like to run the parental controls to control the time that my daughter spends on the computer and filter websites. Please help! :( The computer has Norton 360, which is allowing all tcp/ip & UDP traffic both ways for limewire, and the computer is going through a linksys wireless N Gigbyte router with a firewall. Limewire is not a child's toy and should always be used with adult supervision, simply because of all the illegal material that can be accessed on other P2P user's PCs. Therefore, you should install LW under your (administrator) account and supervise your daughter from there. You know, lots of parents write into this forum complaining about the amount of pornographic material that seems to be readily available. What they don't realise, or seem to understand, is that LW allows you to access other P2P users PCs, not a dedicated controlled server, and no one can control what other adults (PC owners and users) from all over the world can or cannot share. I have searched all over for someone to actually post a fix to this problem and all I see are people saying that it's not for children and they should be monitored. Okay that's noted, but how do you get LimeWire to actually run for a user that is not an administrator. I can run LW just fine because I'm an admin, but my daughter is just a general users so I can have parental controls on her account. She can't get past one bar when trying to get it to connect. I don't care that you can access porn from LW. I care that I have to sign in for her everytime she wants to use it. Someone PLEASE HELP!!! |
Hello, I was in the same boat as you in both my daughter's accounts were non administrator and was using Parental controls and could not log on. Here is what I did to fix the problem. First, I made sure my java was up to date. There are numerous threads on how to do this. Second, I believe it is a permissions issue in why it will not work....So what I did was to change the non-admin accounts to admin accounts and then installed Limewire. Third, I ran Limewire and changed all the preferences to your specific needs. Lastly, I changed the accounts back to non-admin accounts. I did this on both of my daughter's computers and they have been able to login and connect successfully using LW, Vista, Parental Controls and Non-Admin accounts from then on! Hope this helps! |
