![]() Hi guys-- I've been real hesitant to post to ask for help because you have so many resources already out here regarding connection problems with Limewire but alas it seems none of them have been much help to me and I'm really stumped on this one! But I installed LW on Vista Home Premium and it couldn't connect. On a hunch it might be related to Vista, I installed Virtual PC and setup a virtual XP system. I installed LW and it worked just fine. That totally eliminated any hardware issues, since the two OS's are using exactly the same network hardware. Back in Vista, I noticed the firewall icon and was curious if that could be causing my problem. But my own firewall is Windows Firewall. I disabled it to no avail. Also disabled Avast Antivirus and Windows Defender. Then I remembered I had Spyware Doctor installed. I disabled that but it still didn't help. But strangely, when I installed Spyware Doctor on the XP comp, things stopped working. At this point, I also read on your site that some versions of Java could be causing the problem, so I tried the recommended Java 5 Update 13 on both XP and Vista but neither one worked. On XP, I proceeded to uninstall Java, Spyware Doctor, and LW itself to test my Spyware Doctor theory. I reinstalled LW and allowed it to download Java. It seemed to work. I did the same thing on Vista. After the required reboot after uninstalling Java, XP's LW could no longer connect; when I completed the installation on Vista in the same manner as XP, I still couldn't connect. 1. OS version? Vista Home Premium 2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall 3. How much ram? 2GB 4. Hard Disk space available? 51gb 5. Connection type? broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54G (although I've tried bypassing the router as well and that hasn't helped.) 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.) school, but I've confirmed all the ports are open. 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.14.10; Java 1.6.0_03 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Road Runner (I've confirmed p2p is not blocked.) 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes, my laptop running wirelessly (I've tried wired and bypassing the router altogether) and one other desktop. 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. LW has never worked on this laptop, but it has worked on this Internet connection. Hence me pointing fingers at Vista. 12. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, even when all my security software is disabled. Also have Avast Antivirus. UAC and Auto Updates disabled. Thank you!!! |
