Please give us your details.
System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!(click on link)

First off, try deleting LW's preferences folder. Close LW before you do this & check in Task Manager to see that it's properly closed. You'll need to show hidden files & folders to find the preferences folder. Check the thread below for info.

behind a firewall also

ok i posted a thread earlier here are my systems

New hp computer
Windows vista home premium
2 gb of ram
360 gb hard drive
highest speed cable inernet from wow cable
have norton antivirus 360 2007
what ever firewalls came with the vista

I just bought this new computer last week.I had an emachine comptuer before with windows xp on it.Never had a problem with lime wire with xp.I have tried everything to get limewire to work on my new computer with vista.I have allowed access through norton.turned off all the firewalls i have found on the vista and nothing.I click on the limewire icon and it goes to the site but i cannot get a connection.Right next to the globe on the bottom of the screen it says limes has detected a firewall.I have the latest version of limewire 4.14.I have even taken the norton out and tried it.To no avail.I am pulling my hair out and can't figure out why i cannot get a connection?

Turn off the Windows firewall & configure Norton to allow LW.

What version of Java are you using? Try updating to the latest version here. Use the JRE ojffline installer & remove any other Java versions installed on your computer, before you install this one.

Did the port test work?

In LW, go file > disconnect. Wait 10 minutes, then file > connect.

Are you using a modem/router? If you can find your device on the list here, try port forwarding.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
Don't forget to set up a static IP if that's part of the instructions. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the modem/router should all be the same number.

Did you delete LW's preferences folder? You'll know if you deleted that folder properly - when you start LW, you'll go through the setup wizard again.

If it's still not working, try the fix here (replacing gnutella.net file).
all of a sudden will not connect (a fix to try)
Those instructions are for XP, but you'll need to open LW's preferences folder called LimeWire...the same one that you deleted earlier. Then remove & replace the gnutella.net file there.
