If you are new to the world of file sharing please do not be shy! Everyone was ‘new’ when they first started. When posting, please include details for: Your Operating System ....... Try to make your post descriptive, specific, and clear so members can quickly and efficiently help you. To aid helpers in solving download/upload problems, LimeWire and Frostwire users must specify whether they are downloading a torrent file or a file from the Gnutella network. Members need to supply these details >>> System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) Moderators There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.  Unable to Connect 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 13. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall 16. What country are you living in? Virgin Media 10. The page says 'Your test worked!' 11. No. 12. Worked on old desktop computer (Windows SP2) however never worked on this new laptop. 13. Yes 14. UNPN (not actually sure about this one, I'm pretty sure there's no port forwarding going on though...?) 15. Nothing other than ZoneAlarm 16. England, UK. Hi, I recently got a new laptop, an EI-systems 3115, and Limewire does not connect at all. However if I move back over to my desktop (WXP SP2) I can connect and download perfectly fine. The symptoms of my problem are described on this page: User Cant Connect - LimeWire However where it lists the following symptom " LimeWire tries to connect to hosts on the Gnutella network, but it cannot achieve a connection with any of them." this is not the case for me, as the connections tab is empty....? However I do see the world behind a firewall, and it does stay at "one bar indefinitely". I have tried to run LimeWire in Window XP compatibility mode however I get the same results, and a re-install did nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated  .  |

| This has worked for a few Vista users: Uninstall LW (start > all programs > LW > uninstall) & ZA. Now reinstall LW first. Finally, reinstall ZA. Installing LW before ZA seems to be the trick  Double check that the Windows firewall's off. I can't find much info about your modem, but it doesn't seem to have a firewall. In LW file > disconnect. Wait 10 minutes, then file > connect. If you still can't connect, try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. You'll need to show hidden files & folders to be able to find the preferences folder. There are instructions here. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html You'll know if you deleted that folder properly - when you start LW, you'll go through the setup wizard again. If it's still not working, try the fix here (replacing gnutella.net file). http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-fix-try.html Those instructions are for XP, but you'll need to open LW's preferences folder called LimeWire...the same one that you deleted earlier. Then remove & replace the gnutella.net file there. |

| Hi, Firstly sorry for the late reply. I tried all of the above and nothing worked. I have now permanently uninsulated ZoneAlarm (well until the issue is fixed) and I am going to stick with the Windows Vista Firewall. Thanks for your help as without it I wouldn't have realized ZoneAlarm was causing the problem (even if you close ZoneAlarm it continues to be active, it's just the control panel exits.....how annoying!). Thanks again! |

| Tired & frustrated ... I can't connect - been trying 2 days - run out of ideas ... OS version? MS Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Ver. 2002, SP-2 Firewall: Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.0.125 RAM: 2.0 GB Hard Disk Space Available: 161 GB Connection type: Broadband cable Modem/Router: Modem – Scientific Atlanta, Model DPX203C series (Cable modem) Router – Linksys WRT54GS (wireless router) Connect from: House Limewire Version: Limewire 4.14.10 Java: 1.6.0_02 Test: Your test worked!! Sharing: No 1st Try: Yes (for 2 days!) Brickwall: Yes Port Forwarding/UPnP: No (at least I don’t think so …) Security Program: Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.0.125 Country: USA  Ideas??? | Make sure the XP firewall's off if you're using another firewall. I can't find much info about configuring a Kaspersky firewall, visit their forum & see whether you find info there. Kaspersky Lab Forum (Powered by Invision Power Board) A few people have had connection problems with the Java version that you're uisng. Update to the latest Java here. Java SE Downloads Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions from your computer before you install this one. Try port forwarding for your router, the instructions are here. Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54GS Don't forget to set up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router setup should all be the same number. If you're still stuck, try the advice here all of a sudden will not connect (a fix to try) Start off by deleting LW's preferences folder & then try replacing the gnutella.net file. You'll know if you've deleted the preferences folder properly...when you start LW, you'll go through the setup wizard again & all the settings within LW's options will have changed. | This seems to be going forever ... please note my environment above ... I have all firewalls turned off (a scary spot to be in, but I'm trying anything at this point). I have replaced "gnutella.net" I have "Port Forwarded" the port specified Of the 5 bars (bottom left) only the smallest one appears to be connected. Any/all downloads bounce back/forth from "Connecting" to "Waiting nnnns for more sources". I have deleted Limewire, re-downloaded it, re-installed it, re-replaced the gnutella.net module ... nothing. Tried working with both the latest and previous Java Is it possible to "chat" with someone to work through the problems? This has been going on for months ... and, during the process I wiped out Mozilla so now I have to work via IE which is disgusting to me at best. Thanks ... of course, any ideas are welcome if nobody is available to "chat". |
