can anyone please help me?

I got a new laptop, running Vista home premium. I dont have a internet connection at home though, I just go around town picking up different wireless signals. I have uninstalled the free Norton trial, and shut off my Windows Firewall (or so it says.) Nevertheless, when I open up Limewire, I get one green bar and the brick wall in front of my globe. I am not a computer wiz, and if anyone has any step by step instructions to fix this, I would really appreciate it. Either to here or *email address removed*
