Default LimeWire Won't Shut Down In Vista

I'll be blunt... I hate Vista for a number of reasons, one of them is because just about all my P2P programs just won't shut down... even using "end process tree" in Task Manager. That list includes LimeWire, FrostWire, eMule, Azurus, and uTorrent. At one point when I kept restarting LW so some settings would take affect, I had 5 instances of LW running in Task Manager. What is going on???? I never had this problem with XP. I've read other posts here and those solutions don't work.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I have the same problem here. It is annoying. But it seems to only be happening with LimeWire on my pc. Nothing else has that problem, so it must be somehow related to LimeWire.

I should add that I'm using Java 1.6.0 03-b05 which is the latest version. My LW is a bit dated but I had the same problems with the newest version of Frostwire... Azureus, uTorrent, and eMule.

I upgraded to the newest LW Pro 4.16.2... and it's even worst than the old one 4.13. This one stopped working when I was in options changing the listening port and I could not shut it down the options panel down. So I tried to close LW in task manager. It remained open. After about 10 minutes the LW panel disappeared but is still running in the background. Now when I try to shut it down in task manager I get an access denied error... even though I'm operating as the administrator. WTF! Is it Limewire? Vista? The Java RTE?

ZombieGak , thanks for your reply to my other post concerning BearShare.I've read both links you've included.i'm sorry to hear you are still having problems with LW.i've been using BearShare for the past few days with no problems.i suggest you give it a try regardless of what you've read.from what i gathered, LW is one of the most dangerous p2p software crap you can put on your computer.good luck.

Gnutella should never have updated LimeWire. They should have just left it alone. Now they screwed up everyone.

What Gnutella needs to do is open an archive where the last working LimeWire version can be downloaded. Otherwise, it's up to them to fix the problem, and that could take a long time.

Well I don't think the problem is the Java RE. I uninstalled v6 and installed the last version of v5... update 13. And LW still won't shut down. So since there are so many programs that behave in this fashion I think it must be a Vista issue. That comes as no surprise... does it. I did also notice that Frostwire also inherited the freezeup problem when the port number is changed.

If your Lime wire will not shut down or keep opening buy it self than you got your self a worm and the only way to get rid of it is with AVG.

Thanks but I'm running AVG. I did a spyware, AV, and rootkit scan. So I have to assume the PC is clean.

The problem is that just about ALL my P2P programs won't shut down in task manager. The problem started right when I got my new PC. Most of these programs are Java but I tried an older version. One other program is in C++. So I have to assume it's Vista. Other programs are affected in that there are way too many application hangups... they just stop responding.
