Connection Problems on windows Vista

I have just got a new computer with windows vista on it. i am the admnistrator too. when i go to try and search something up on limewire there is a message that comes up and says " Limewire is currently connecting to a network, search results might not show up until you are fully connected" i have already made the cception in my firewall for limewire. but the think that does not make sense to me is that i have downloaded bittorrent, and it runs fine it downlaods movies fine. also when i go into the connections tab in limewire there is no one there for me to connect to.
could someone please advise me a fix to this problem

Hi try this fix :-
[1] you must show hidden files - click on limewire link below (how to show hidden files in windows vista)
[2] now look for the Limewire Folder - you will find it here:-
C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire
[3] Ensure that limewire is completely off (check that it isn't in the system tray-bottom right-if it is click on it and select exit)
now open the .limewire folder and look for and delete the gnutella.net file (see image below)
If you dont find a gnutella.net file in yr Limewire Folder dont panic just go to para [4] and cont thru to [6]

http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/LW_g...1196869679.jpg
[4] download a new version from (here) and save it to yr desktop
[5 Drag the new gnutella.net file from your desktop into the limewire folder.
[6] Close the LW Folder and start up Limewire

If this doesn't fix yr problem:-
Go to Limewire links (below) click on (if LW will not connect) and go through these fixes -- if yr problem still remains after this click on (System details) fill in as much as you can and post here

one of yr firewalls, zone alarm or yr router is blocking limewire from connecting -- switch off zone alarm and see if you can connect if you can then the fault is zone alarm if you cant then the fault is the router -- if the fault is zone alarm try these settings here:-(if you have zonealarm firewall try this)

:confused:ok i tryed the advice that u gave and it stil ist working, i am still only getting the one bar of signal, and the message that say ur not connected!! but i just remembered when i was installing it, it wasent letting me insalll 4 of the files, it said something like cannot install this file....... CANCEL to abort, RETRY to Retry, and IGNORE to just pass this and move on tothe next file.. so i just clicked ignore. and i had to click ignore for 4 of these files mayb this has something to do with why it isnt wantiing to connect!!!

mayb there is still some hope out there for me:confused:

insightful 'skyliner'

can you answer me this:
i'm running vista
just started downloading songs,
some that play and some that won't.
several show green on my library/playlist, yet will not only play, but also won't allow me to delete the file!?
common response: the following files could not be deleted. they may be in use by another application or are currently being downloaded to.
is the file in use to be deleted later?
any concerns to be aware of?
thx

yes that's possibly the reason you are not connecting -- you haven't installed all the Limewire files -- suggest you uninstall using Limewire uninstall and not the add/remove programs -- you will find it here -- start -> All Programs -> Limewire -> Uninstall. -- After doing this go to your limewire folder and delete it -- you will find it here -- you must show all hidden files:- click on limewire link below (how to show hidden files in windows vista) C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire
now download/reinstall LimeWire

BrendanVennard February 20th, 2008 04:54 PM

i have uninstalled it the way that u wnted me to and when i installed it again it brings uip the same message saying that it cannot install those files??

ok - I dont know why this is happening -- can you download/install a different version of Limewire Then re-install limewire using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

BrendanVennard February 20th, 2008 06:10 PM

alright i guess i could try that option..... but am running LimeWire V 4.14.8 PRO.... can u think of ne other way that i could do this because i like the version i am using now:confused:

If not then i guess this is the way that i will have to go to get lime wire running

hi brendan, well yr present version isnt working at the moment so I just thought to give a different version a go to see if it downloads ok -- if it doesnt go back to yr original version --- it's abit of trial and error here to see what will work -- give it a go and let us know how you got on
dont forget to use the Limewire uninstall and to delete the Limewire folder as I have said in previous posts

BrendanVennard February 20th, 2008 07:39 PM

ok i uninstalled it the way that u told me too. then i went and downloaded it again using the offline downloader... but then when i went to install it it still would not let me install those 4 files.!!!

goodmorning Brendan, ok lets try this -- delete yr current java 6.0 from the add/remove programs list and install this older version 5.0 from here:-
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions (via Add/Remove Programs) before installing another one.

BrendanVennard February 21st, 2008 02:31 PM

ok good - we have sorted out the download/installation problem of LW now lets try and get you connected -- please scroll up to page 1 post #2 (permalink) of this thread and follow the instructions I gave you for that fix (delete/replace gnutella.net file)

If this doesnt fix yr problem -- in limewire links click on (If LW will not connect) and go through those fixes

BrendanVennard February 21st, 2008 08:18 PM

Is there ne fix to this problem now?

when you say youve done that do you mean that you deleted the gnutella.net file and replaced it with a new one as per the instructions -- did you also go through all the fixes in (If LW will not connect) in Limewire Links -- pse update me on the limewire version youre using with java 5.0

BrendanVennard February 22nd, 2008 05:16 PM

yes i deleted the old gnutella.net file i downloaded the new one and put it in the file i am using LW 4.16. and yes i went through all of the fixes!

Download the latest version of Java. Remove All Java versions installed (via Add/Remove Programs) before you install the latest Version. (Download the JRE Offline Installer)try searching again to see how it goes . We seem to have ended up where you first started and if changing the java doesnt work for you I'm fresh out of ideas, I have seen other people with the same problem (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...eone-help.html) as yourself but they were told that it's possibly a java problem.</p>

skyliner February 23rd, 2008 04:20 PM

Brendan,

If updating the latest java version doesnt fix yr problem have a look at this:-

go to yr limewire icon on yr desktop:-
right click on the LW icon -> properties -> compatibility. For XP, try running in compatibility mode for Win 2000 or NT. For Vista, run in compatibility mode for XP.
