Yahoo Messenger Ver. 8.1.0.421

Whenever I use my Limewire Pro 4.12.3 it alters settings in my Yahoo Messenger, which prevents me from opening the following ....contact profiles....email....all items in the "drop down box under Help".In summary anything that has to go to the Yahoo Server as much as I can determine.I have checked directions from Yahoo to assure that "internet explorer" is set tobe my "default browser" for the various URL protocols, and that is all in order.I would appreciate any help in solving this problem. My OS Vista Premium. IE 7. Firewall included with Vista..DSL high speed provided by MTS 2GB RAM. 320GB hard drive. AMD Athlon 64x2 4000+ processor.AVG AV which is not activated when using Limewire.

Having your Antivirus software un-activated when you are using P2P is asking for trouble. There are many - many Virus and Trojan files that use the P2P network to propogate and spread throughout the whole system. You are doing you fellow Limewire users a big disservice by not having your antivirus system active while you obtain files from off this network. You could well be the source of some of the many active virus or trojan files that have propogated on this and other P2P network. I would suggest that you use that AV program every time, and do a thorough scan right now of all the files that you have downloaded while you've had it disconnected.
Good Luck!

Robert I am going to heed your good advice.Up untill now what I have been doing is scanning any individual file I D/L before I open it.I have never experienced a problem with Limewire except the one I contained in my posting here.I trust someone can come up with further directions to help me solve it.

I think it's more that this is a very weird problem that no one has encountered before. Even if Limewire was using some port that Yahoo Messenger does, it should only be one port and from your explanation of the problem this involves several ports.

Only thing I can advise is maybe trying an older version of Limewire or even switching to a different client i.e. Frostwire or Phex to see if the problem persists.

Sleepless....thx. so much for your advice my problems have been solved.I D/L Frostwire and at the time of "install" it prompted and removed my Limewire.Very similar interface, and the only difference I may not have quite as good of D/L speeds, but maybe to early to tell.
