Default Problems with invalid save file - Vista

Howdy all,

As a recent convert to vista, I am now encountering many problems which others are as well, but despite searching these forums, I am yet to find someone with the same problem (and then solution) as me. And here is my problem.

I have recently upgraded to vista, and shortly afterwards installed the latest limewire version. I created a downloads folder on the d:\ drive where I also keep a lot of my other things, such as music etc. I want new and incoming downloads to end up in this folder.

That worked fine for a few days, but today, inexplicably, when I started limewire a error message appeared which informed me that this folder was invalid, write protected etc, and asking that I find a new path. I went to the downloads folder on the D:\, right clicked on folder icon and noticed that under properties, the square sayign read only was filled in. I unclicked this setting, and thinking that the folder could now be written to, directed LW to this path. It wouldn't accept it. I went back and looked at the folder again, and to my dismay, it again had the 'read only' square filled in. I unclicked it, pressed apply, closed the window, then opened propreties and again and it was back again to read only?!?!? What the hell??

Has anyone encountered this problem? I am assuming that this read only square resetting itself is the reason that limewire won't let me save there. Is this true? How do I fix this, and stop the folder reverting to 'read only@??/

Cheers
Zahael

I googled your problem and this is a solution I found....

Give yourself access, in true, Secure, Windows fashion

Start (ORB) > Computer > Right click D:\ > Properties > Security > Edit > Ensure "Everyone" is selected > Check 'Allow' for Full Control on the Permissions for Everyone section (which will select all the others for you) > OK

You are bound to get the Vista user account security pop ups for this - just accept them - then be patient as it scans every file and makes it all nice and accessible

Let us know if this helps...

Thanks mate but unforunately, that didn't seem to work. When the scan happens it comes up with a message saying 'd:\System Volume Information.

Access is denied'

There is little explanation beyond that. When I go back and look at the permissions, the'full control' box is ticked, however there is no change whjen i start limewire and ask it to download to that box.

Any idea what this could be about?
