Default Everything freezes when i start LW

Well it has come down to you guys for help. I have Limewire on my laptop which has Vista. Everytime that i go to open limewire, everything on the computer freezes. I have tried to uninstall and re install it, but that has not worked. I did a search of my registry and that came up clean. It's wierd because i was using limewire about 2 days ago and everything was fine. I go to use it today and well you see what happens.

How many shares do you have? How many incomplete files? How much ram do you have?
It may be a java problem all the same. Which specific java version are you using, is it up to date? You could try removing all versions of Java & reinstalling using the offline java http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (which is about 15 MB in size for offline option.)

Also delete your LW preferences: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

Ok, well I have tried what you had said, and after about 60 seconds of starting limewire my whole computer just freezes. I have enough RAM. It's just kind of odd that one mornining i wake up to use it and it does this to my computer. It worked perfectly fine up until that morning.

Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link)

If still problems, perhaps you should downgrade your version of LW.

Yep, tried that too. It was working fine before I did the Windows updates but for some reason my system restore doesn't go back far enough.......I'm at a loss.

It may be a java problem. Use the Add/Remove programs Control panel to remove all Java versions, then install only the OFFLINE version which is about 15 MB in size Download Java software from Sun Microsystems as installing over the internet frequently results in corrupt installations.

Deleting the LW preferences folder 'might' improve things.

Make sure you defragment your hard disk drives periodically. Programs like LimeWire with constant downloading fragment drives very quickly. Fragmented drives result in slowing the computer down as it takes the computer much longer to find information (parts of the files spread all over the place.)

I personally choose a different drive to save my downloads to. In this way it lessens affects on the system in the way suggested. On my mac I also run my LW from a separate partition though don't think that is possible on windows.

If still nothing improves .. post these details: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link)
