Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Connecting... (Hanging)

I made a post once before but I gave up so it's been a year or so I think, I'm going to try to get some help again.

I have a Toshiba with Vista. My old laptop ran Limewire fine but it finally died, not my new pc will not. I've disabled the Windows Firewall, my antivirus, my Windows Defender, and User Account Control.

I used to have the old version installed and it would just hang on "Loading Internationalization Support", with the firewall/brick wall image. I uninstalled that and installed the latest version today and now it just hangs on "Connecting..."

Let me know what other info you need and if anyone can help, thanks.

Also decided to try Frostwire just now instead of Limewire, it says "Starting Connection" with one green bar and four red ones, once again it has the firewall/brick wall image. It is just hanging on Starting Connection. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

You supplied many details .. can you supply some more System details - help us to help you (click on blue link)

Which version of LW did you update to? This is important to know. Here's one place to start: If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) ... you will most likely need to replace the gnutella.net file.

Default Click on the blue link

lol, that's too priceless, the click on the blue link comment. It saddens me that people who don't know what a hyperlink look like are trying to D/L w/ limewire. Anywho...

1. OS version? Vista
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Only
3. How much ram? 1918MB (2k)
4. Hard Disk space available? 106GB/184GB (200GB)
5. Connection type? Comcast Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem - Comcast; Router - Belkin 54G... Forget the rest, but it's never caused issues before.
7. Where are you trying to connect from - Home/House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Since I uninstalled Limewire, I'm not sure how to check my Java. I originally had a pretty old version of Limewire, from about a year ago, then I downloaded the newest 5.x one directly from the web page today to try that one as well, and I tried Frostwire as well today, also the most recent version directly from that web page.
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast *bleh*
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 'Your test worked!' loaded immediately.
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. One other new wireless set up less than a week ago and one wired, issues occured on new pc but not on old one while LAN was connected, no new issues have arised from the new WAN.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. No I used to use LW a lot on quite a few computers in my day, this is the first one I've had a problem with, also coincidentally the first one with Vista.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes I saw the brick wall and I could've sworn it was there but in a different location after installing the brand new LW 5.x today, I thought it was up top for some reason, perhaps that was Frostwire.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Both maybe? I could probably figure out where in my router settings it was if it wasn't such a sucky, tiring day. I thought UPnP was enabled but I play WoW and they've had me set up specific ports to keep open and listen on?
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? AVG Free only - I've tried disabling this as well.
16. What country are you living in? US of A
17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc?
The only thing that changed that caused the problem was getting a new laptop with Vista, until that point, it worked fine on my old laptop. I've attempted to make various other changes by disabling things and allowing things and updating things to fix the problem, none have worked.

Hope this clears up everything you need to know, I will check out the second blue link tomorrow during my lunch break from work and respond to any responses then as well. Or maybe if I have a little time before I leave for work in the morning. Have a good night and thank you.

Deleted the gnutella.net file, Re-installing 5.1.2, uninstalled Frostwire, disabled all firewalls/defenders/antiviruses/user account security/router firewall's......
Opening Limewire...
Sitting at Connecting... still
And in reference to my last post, yeah the brick wall one I had seen was Frostwire, not LW 5.

Edit: Oh and my Java is 1.6.0_13

From what I've seen Belkins are better port forwarded. You could do this for this particular laptop. Important issue is that both your LW's use a different port to both connect & listen through. eg: use 6346 for old computer, perhaps 64049 for the one you port forward.

Make sure your Vista firewall has an exception for LW; Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link)

With LW 5, you can simply delete the gnutella.net file in the preferences folder. LW 5 will create a fresh one. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html & gnutella.net file will be inside the LW preferences folder.

I believe I did all three of those already.

I tried deleting the file.

I set up port forwarding (I think) yesterday via my router settings based off of the port number located within LW Settings.

I already made an exception for LW in my firewall, AND disabled it. I made an exception in Windows Defender as well.

Some things to try, replace the gnutella.net file as described here If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link). LW must be closed at that time. If the other LW is connecting fine, perhaps even try the gnutella.net file from that program's preference folder.

I presume you set LW's firewall option for port forwarding, the same port as you port forwarded the belkin. Manual port forward instructions & sample image

(yes there are some people who do not know what hyperlinks are. lol)

Default Did

I already did follow the hyperlink and delete the file, I will try to download a new one after work, and yes I did set up port setting for LW and the router on the same port.
