iTunes (9) Sharing Playlist and LimeWire (Think this is the right forum, but here goes) I recently upgraded to LimeWirePRO (Well, not that recently) 5.2.13 and iTunes 9.0.1.8, and now I am unable to use the "Matt's LimeWire Tunes" shared playlist. Can anyone help clear this up? 1. OS version? Windows Vista (Admin) 2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall. 3. How much ram? 2 GB 4. Hard Disk space available? 397GB. 5. Connection type? Broadband. 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 2WIRE 2701HGV-W 7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home. 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LimeWire: 5.2.13, Java: 1.6.0_16 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Bigpond. 10. Do this simple test for us. What happens when you go there? Your test Worked! 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Yes, there is another computer connected to the router that I connected to. I am using a laptop via a Wireless Network Connection, and the other computer is connected via an ethernet cable. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem, experianced user. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes. 14. I don't think that I'm currently port forwarding, and UPnP is disabled, as far as I know. 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? AVG Free 8.5. 16. What country are you living in? Australia 17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Yes, I updated my iTunes and my LimeWire, as well as getting new computer (laptop). Thanks for the help, if anyone could kindly give me some. |
Do you mean that "Matt's LimeWire Tunes" isn't showing in iTunes? Within LW, make sure that you still have iTunes sharing enabled. Tools > Options > My Files > click on Configure, next to iTunes > tick both boxes > ok. Close iTunes, restart LW & then open iTunes - see whether that helps. If not, go back into LW's options & untick the boxes for iTunes sharing > ok. Restart LW & then go back into Options & tick the boxes again > ok. Sometimes disabling/re-enabling the options is a fix :) I'm using iTunes 7, but haven't heard of any other people having probs with iTunes 9 & LW. |
Thanks for the very fast reply. I should have phrased my words better - Matt's LimeWire Tunes IS showing , but there is nothing in the playlist. Not a single song. Unfortunately, nothing that you recommended fixed my problem. It's very strange. |
Do you have iTunes set to look for shared libraries (Edit > Preferences > Sharing > tick 'look for shared libraries' > ok)? Are your songs all showing in LW's library as usual? |
I've got iTunes set up to look for shared libraries, and all of my LimeWire songs are showing up in LW. I can play most of them through LimeWire, but a few are automatically playing the version in the iTunes library when I click on the in Limewire. |
Were you ever able to see your shared LW tunes playlist when using 5.2.13 with iTunes 9? Which did you update first - LW or iTunes? Did you ever use an older version of LW with iTunes 9? Are your Pro benefits current (ie can you still download a Pro version from your Pro download page whenever you want to)? If your Pro benefits are current & you didn't opt for the 'one off payment' Pro then you could try installing an older Pro to see whether that fixes the issue. But if you don't have current benefits you wouldn't be able to do that & would risk losing your current Pro version, unless you've saved the installer. There have been some issues between LW & iTunes with earlier versions of iTunes. Hopefully it's not happening again with iTunes 9. If this has just started happening since installing 5.2.13, you could also try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location). Fixes for LimeWire This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. Vista users: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista |
No, I have never been able to share with the current version of the software. I updated LimeWire first, I think. Though, it really a re-download for both iTunes and LimeWire because I needed to download the programs for my laptop. I have never used a older version of LW with iTunes 9. I don't think my benefits are still current, though I am planning to get a VISA debit card for myself soon, so I'll repurchase it soon enough. I am considering downloading the free version of LW to see if that works (I don't mind losing my PRO version, I'll repurchase it later). |
Would you like to try an older version of iTunes, to see whether that works? Like I said, I'm using iTunes 7 & there are no probs with the latest stable LW or the Beta versions. Maybe this is an issue with iTunes 9 - check out the links below. Is The New iTunes 9, Limewire Resistant? - Yahoo! Answers Apple - Support - Discussions - Limewire Itunes Connection ... (though this one tells you to change the location of LW's download folder) It can be a bit of a pain to revert to an older iTunes & preserve your library etc... depends whether you have heaps of files in your iTunes library. If you're interested in trying that, rather than losing your Pro LW then check out this link for info: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/327806-post4.html |
I've got several hundered songs in my iTunes library,so it's a pain to have to put them all back in there. I've downloaded the LimeWire basic, and and downloading iTunes 9.0.1 again, so I'll let you know how it goes when I finish. |
Are you downloading basic 5.2.13 or the Beta (5.3.4)? If you're downloading the same basic version as your Pro version then chances are that you'll have the same problem. Those 2 links that I found suggest that it might be an iTunes 9 issue. You could see whether the latest LW Beta behaves any differently (if you don't mind using a Beta version). There's a link to the Beta here:Get LimeWire for Your Platform - Lime Wire You can preserve your library when downgrading iTunes, the link about downgrading has some info. I've done it several times when switching back & forth between iTunes 6 & 7. So if it does turn out to be an iTunes issue, chances are that you can make the switch fairly painlessly. But of course, it's up to you to choose whether you want to go down that road :) |
I'll try out the beta (Thanks again for the link). I'm probably going to stay with iTunes 9 just for the fact it's a whole lot faster than the old one. If nothing works, then perhaps with a patch or something later down along the line I'll be able to use my LimeWire Tunes playlist. |
If the Beta doesn't work then you could also try a LW 4 version, as long as you're happy to use LW 4. Who knows where the incompatibility is - just maybe LW 4 won't have the same issue. If you want to try LW 4 then check out this thread for links: Downgrading to LimeWire 4 from 5 & resuming incomplete downloads If it's an issue with iTunes 9 then the LW developers will be notified & they can look into it. Edit: Please let us know whether changing LW versions fixes the problem. Thanks. |
1 Attachment(s) I'm using Win XP, updated iTunes & QuickTime to most recent & using LW 5.2.13 & no problems with the user playlist showing in iTunes including music & video. Unlike LW 4, you do not see Library & user lists, instead you simply see the user shared playlist with drop down arrow. * For the songs to appear in the shared user list in iTunes, it appears they need to be shared in LW. I think that means it operates differently to previous versions of LW which from memory showed all recently downloaded music. Under LW's Tools -> Options menu scroll down to iTunes options button & ensure share with iTunes is enabled. Using another Win XP with updated iTunes & QuickTime & LW 5.3.4 Beta, the other account's LW playlist (one mentioned at of post) shows up fine as does the LW 5.3.4 playlist, and another from a mac computer. Generally after installing/updating QuickTime you should reboot your computer. Attachment 5063 |
Ok, after downgrading to LW 4, I got a message saying that "Matt's LimeWire Tunes are not compatable with this version of iTunes." So it's a no go with the downgrade. I'll upgrade to the beta version again, and I'll ensure that all of my library is shared. |
Both LW 5 versions should work fine. LW 4 does have that issue with the later iTunes versions. |
After upgrading to LimeWire 5 and ensuring that all my LimeWire files are shared, I can now access all of my LimeWire though the "Matt's LimeWire Tunes" playlist! Thank you SO much birdy and Lord Of The Rings, you guys were amazing. EXCELLENT support on this place, and if I've got any more troubles, I won't hesitate to ask! |

I just updated to iTunes 9 as a test. My options are ticked to allow sharing with iTunes. My 'LimeWire Tunes' shows as per usual. But - if I don't have files showing in Public Shared in My Library (ie being shared with the world), they don't show in my LimeWire Tunes in iTunes. Add everything to Public Shared & it shows up in the LW playlist in iTunes. So looks like it's not just iTunes sharing within Options but adding to Public Shared as well. |
Yeah, seems that way. Everything is working perfectly now. Just gotta remember in the future that everything needs to actually be set to shared in my library. Thanks again, guys. Hope this helps other people, too. :P |
