Default cood1199 error

Hi,in need of a little advise.Resently crashed my hard drive which had all my video, audio, picture files on,which i was able to recover .Now i have the problem with when i transferd them back to the hard drive which is fixed now,all the files show a "COOD1199" or "UNSUPPORTDED" error msg.I have all the corect codec's needed as other files which were not effected still work.If the files that are showing the error's have been corupted or damaged is there anyway or recovering them..I tryed a few and in the propertises it does'nt show any details, i.e. movie lenght,size..

THX,any advise would be much appreciated.

Are you trying to play the files with Windows Media Player?

Have you tried with another/other player(s)?

From a very quick Google, it looks like this error could be a WMP error. See whether VLC will play the files. Check this thread for info & a download link for VLC (free player with codecs installed to play most file types): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/tips-t...p3-fixers.html

The files may be damaged in some way. File-recovery programs are not always able to return fully healthy files in my past experience.
I presume you used a file-recovery program?
Usually I'd consider if VLC cannot play a file, it's no good.
The files might not necessarily be beyond repair. They may just be missing file file properties information which needs to be replaced so the system recognises them for what they are. I do not know of what utility program can do this on windows since I am mostly a mac user. (On my a Mac i would use Mac Army Knife.)

Are you still using the same hard disk drive? I'm not a full windows user & never used the windows backup system, but might a system restore help in some way? Birdy might know? (From what I've read in past, system restores do not affect the user's personal account general files though.)
