Default Used File_Girl71's Host Patch for LW, Now Certain Websites Don't Work :( Please Help

So I used File_Gir71l's LW Fix following her instructions as seen below the line, and 1 & 2 worked fine the first few times. But today it didn't so I followed 3 & 4 and it worked again. But now some websites don't work, like Gmail, Facebook, etc. Like in Gmail it says the webpage has a redirect loop.

I tried uninstalling LW and removing the host cache in the Limewire folder in the AppData/Roaming folder but to no avail. The sites are still not working, I can't access accounts, I'm just stuck at the front pages or like in gmail can't access at all.

Please Help Me Guys, Some of the websites I can't access are for work

Anyway info about what I use are Windows Vista, DSL speed, the Nov2010 Limewire Version, THANK YOU

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Only for LimeWire version 5.1.x and higher)

How To Do:
-----------------

When you apply the FiX and Patch LimeWire must not be runing at this point. If so shut LimeWire down first!

1.) Extract the content of LimeWire-FiX.rar archive to a easy to remember location like Desktop or My Documents...

2.) Doubble click on LimeWire-FiX.exe and when its done start run LimeWire...In most cases this will work for all of the LimeWire version 5.x.x.(If LimeWire still can not connect to the Gnutella network, try next step!)

3.) Doubble click on Host_Patch.exe and install it...You should have now a new shortcut in Start---->All Programs---->LimeWire---->Host Patch. If so move on to next step...

4.) Again doubble click on LimeWire-FiX.exe and so go to Start---->All Programs---->LimeWire---->Host Patch and click on Host Patch shortcut. Now start up LimeWire and it should connect quit fast to Gnutella network...

I'm not sure why the patch should have had that effect. The intention of the patch was to over-ride LW's internal commands to delete the connection file if LW has not been used for a while.

File_Girl has not been around for a couple months. So unable to ask her about this.

I'm not a Windows wiz, being a Mac user, hopefully a Windows user can offer some advice about what steps might be able to fix this issue.

But thank you nonetheless for taking a look at my thread. I appreciate it a lot. I really hope someone knows what happened. My last resort is to reformat. :\

Hi Overju,

AFAIK File_Girl's fix shouldn't do anything except add a new list of IPs for LW to connect to.

Do you use an IP blocker (like PeerBlock or PeerGuardian)? I had a problem in the past where some sites suddenly were blocked & in the end it was a PeerGuardian issue.

Have you tried doing a System Restore?

Do you use any security programs which were (manually or automatically) updated around the time you started having problems?

Thanks for replying. Anyway, maybe it's windows defender? I'm not sure. I tried system restore yesterday, but it didn't work as well. It just made Limewire disappear but sites were still on a redirect loop.

But a funny thing happened. So I woke up today, and I still can't access some websites like Gmail, Paypal. etc. I'm a Google Chrome user, so I thought lets try Mozilla. And voila I got in the sites. So I thought maybe its a browser problem.

But then I tried Chrome again, and now those sites work again. O_o This is confusing. I noticed though that the brick wall icon on the bottom right is gone at the moment. So maybe it is Windows Defender screwing with me? I don't even remember it being there before. Its too much of a coincidence that it happened exactly after I used the host patch.

Somehow the problem fixed itself? Just as it began it ended without me not knowing what happened. Anyway thank you, you guys, sorry, if it seems I wasted a few secs of your life over nothing, but your replies gave me such relief. I was ready to reformat today. Now I don't have to.

Gonna try to reinstall LW again, hope it doesn't happen again. Hopefully its just some blocker screwing with me like you said. Thanks again guys.

Otherwise you could try searching the net for something like ' website Google Chrome redirect loop'... maybe other people have had this issue also. Don't know whether the link below will help, but maybe??

Hey thanks for the link, I feel like such a stupid noob for not thinking of searching about redirect loops in the first place, instead I wasted my time focusing/searching on the wrong things.

I read some of the comments, and some said their calendar and clock were suddenly off. When they fixed it everything went fine. That's exactly what I did moments ago before the problem disappeared. Now I'm gonna search about what could have done this clock haywire. Turns out it wasn't an effect, it was the cause of the problem. Thanks again, Birdy. Much appreciated.
