Yeah I checked those posts first too, and pretty much came to the conclusion it was a java issue. Initially I tried changing java max_cache size variables etc in windows environment variables, deleting the downloads.dat and editing the lib dll's made no difference for me unfortunately. still doesn't work till this day.

This startup issue that some of you may be experiencing is occurring in a third party application that WireShare uses called icu4j. What I believe is causing it to fail is that the Java revision number is greater than 255. Try uninstalling Java 1.8.0.261 and install Java 1.8.0.251 and report back here if that resolves the issue.

Hope you don't mind if I throw in a wildcard possibility. Possibly the icu4j version is outdated to handle some of the newer translations (charset converter coverage ~ that the particular java version can handle.) From that I can ascertain there's constant updates in what unicode icu4j can handle. Java itself has very limited and outdated unicode support.

FYI, I can confirm that the Wireshare startup problem occured after Java JRE was updated from version 1.8.0.251 to version 1.8.0.261. After reverting to Java 1.8.0.251 (32-bit version), Wireshare starts again. Tested with Wireshare 5.6.6 and 6.0.0.

It would be appreciated if an updated version of Wireshare can be made available that works with Java 1.8.0.261 and later.

The icu4j.jar file has been replaced with an updated version in the WireShare source code so this issue will be corrected in the next release.

Image posted is fine, not a thumbnail. Not sure why you were trying to repost the same image. Images posted on the forum are by default always in thumbnail mode. Click on the image and you will see what I mean.

As bigjx suggested next update will fix the problem (if it's the same problem.) You might need to downgrade WireShare in meantime.
Whilst you installed an earlier version java 8, you might possibly have two versions installed. I guess you could check your Add/Remove Control Panel to verify this. I don't know about these days but in the past Windows sometimes a reboot would see the java properly initialised (system's java pointers/references cleaned and corrected) after installation. Though my reasoning might not be accurate.

@runt66, Wireshare needs the 32-bit version of Java, and you have probably installed the 64-bit version. In first instance I did the same and then I also got this error message.

Download link for 32-bit version of Java 1.8.0.251 (I hope this links works for you):
